Key responsibilities

  • Based in Shanghai but with a common law background (qualified in Singapore/ Hong Kong/ England & Wales);
  • Role heavily focused in international arbitration and disputes work largely centred around Mainland China clients and work (with an emphasis on shipping and trading work);
  • Some exposure and involvement in the non-contentious side, e.g., sanctions;
  • Business Development and commercial awareness and confidence in building rapport with clients to gain a better understanding of their business' needs and with the assistance of the partners, actively developing client relationships;
  • Travel within China occasionally;
  • Collaboration to work with the wider team across Singapore, Hong Kong and the APAC region.

Candidate Profile

  • 3-5 years' of post qualification experience;
  • Common law background and qualified in common law jurisdiction(s) (HK/SG/E&W) is essential;
  • Strong general litigation and international arbitration background;
  • Experience in shipping/ international trade matters highly regarded;
  • Experience working with reputable or international law firms is preferred;
  • Language proficiency is key, and conversant in business Mandarin is a requirement;
  • Drafting in Chinese would be advantageous but not essential;
  • Strong academics, self-driven, a 'can do' approach, with excellent verbal and written communications skills;
  • Strong time management skills and the ability to effectively manage competing priorities in order to meet deliverables to a very high standard.
