The Department
The IT Department is responsible for the delivery of all aspects of the Firm's Information Technology systems and services, including all phases of design, build implementation and operation to meet the needs of the firm.  This post sits within the 3rd line area which comprises infrastructure, applications, telephony and 3rd line support teams.

The Role
Based in the head office in London the job holder will:
• Manage the applications and 3rd line support teams which are responsible for the support and maintenance of UK and centrally managed applications globally. 
• Develop and implement appropriate ITIL based processes to ensure that the level of user support, system availability and performance meets expectations.
• Participate in the development and implementation of the technology roadmap for the firm.

Work closely with colleagues in IT (service desk and projects teams) and the wider business to deliver projects,           
      service and process improvements.

Main Responsibilities

• Manage the installation, configuration, maintenance and support of all applications in the UK and all centrally managed global applications.
• Implement appropriate ITIL based best practices. 
• Work closely with the infrastructure team leader and the customer services manager to ensure that systems are monitored, and incident\problem escalations processes are in place to meet service availability and management SLA’s.
• Day to day management of the applications and 3rd line support teams and its responsibilities including all aspects of staff and external supplier management, preparing, agreeing and operating within an annual business plan and budget.
• Deputise for the Technical services Manager and the infrastructure team lead when they are unavailable.
• When required take the lead during Priority 1 incidents.
• Establish and agree with the enterprise architecture group the application technology roadmap and strategy for all UK and centrally managed/owned applications.
• Document all business applications including BCP/DR plans; ensure that the documentation is maintained and that in conjunction with other managers the BCP/DR plans are tested at least annually.
• Maintain the team's resource plan and work closely with other IT managers to ensure that agreed operational and project activities are delivered to quality, time and budget.
• Work with and provide IT staff world-wide with practical guidance and help to ensure that we meet both the global and local IT requirements.
• Provide a formal monthly report detailing successes, any team and system issues, availability and performance against SLAs etc.

Work Based Competencies :

Essential:-

• Experience of working in project teams  ideally delivering global solutions
• Ability to plan, create and maintain detailed resource and project plans
• Technical background
• Vendor management (involvement in bid management an advantage)
• Process, documentation and  ideally workflow skills
• Analytical and logical approach to problem solving

Technical Skills:
Strong understanding of Microsoft technologies, experience in managing Exchange and SQL an advantage.

Desirable:-
• Any of the following accreditations; ITIL Qualified, Prince 2, MCP, MCSE.
• Operational budget management
• Management experience  of Document Management Solutions (Autonomy iManage)
• Exposure to law firm applications (Interaction, Empower, Elite, Whitehill, LaserForms, Bighand, CarpeDiem, Digital dictation)
• Previous management experience in a multinational firm (law firm background highly desirable)
