Overview
The IT Department is responsible for the delivery of all aspects of the Firm's Information Technology systems and functions, including all phases of system design, build, implementation and operations to meet the firm’s needs.
The 3rd line teams provide the technical skills for the implementation and maintenance of the firms IT infrastructure and application elements such as networking, SAN’s, blades, backups, domain and telephony services, databases and systems monitoring. Working with the service desk, project teams and external vendors is a key responsibility.
This role sits within the Infrastructure team (3rd Line Systems Engineer) who provide the support, stability, integrity and enhancement of the UK and centrally managed environments. The job holder will primarily be responsible for supporting Clyde’s backend systems including active directory, VM Ware, SQL Server and systems business continuity. Working with colleagues to ensure systems comply with the IT strategy, are monitored, secured, supported, maintained and performs in accordance with agreed SLA's.
Principal Accountabilities • Technically run the SQL Server infrastructure globally • Maintain and support the VM Ware environments, providing servers for all projects and technical services teams • Administration and support of global active directory • Document 3rd line systems and services ensuring that they are well maintained • Responsible for system health checks resolving issues and escalating where appropriate • Ensuring DR and BCP plans are updated, documented, tested as necessary
Main Responsibilities • Ensure incident escalations are dealt with in a timely fashion • Engage with vendors, working within agreed SLA’s • Plan and implement changes to the server estate and SQL server environment following ITIL release management best practice • Work with IT staff world-wide to assist with practical guidance in meeting local needs • Production of performance monitoring metrics to report success\failures of systems. • Provide project and BAU activities for yearly budgeting process
Budgetary Responsibilities • Input into technical requirements for the budget cycle.
Candidate Specification • Strong 3rd line technical support and troubleshooting • Experience of working in project teams delivering global solutions • Ability to mentor 2nd/3rd line support team • Excellent documentation skills • Analytical and logical approach to problem solving Technical Skills: • Extensive experience working with Active Directory (ideally multi-site) • Strong MS Windows 2003 server • Excellent VM Ware experience (ideally vs. 4) • Excellent SQL Server 2005/2008 64 bit clustered environments • Networking - TCP/IP, DHCP,DNS,WINS & SMTP
Any of the following would be beneficial: Cisco switching and routing \ Tivoli \ Tape libraries \ Data Domain De-duplication \ Storage experience (Ideally SAN\NAS) \ Blade enclosures \ Server room management
Qualifications • Previous legal or professional services experience • Any of the following accreditations; MCP, MCSE, ITIL Prince 2

Working Pattern: 09.00 to 17.30pm (plus periodical on-call) Early shift 08:00 – 16:30 \ Late Shift: 10:00 – 18:30
