Do you have a passion for competition law? We are seeking a commercially-focused lawyer with 2 - 5 years' experience to support our clients' across a wide range of matters and industries in this fascinating area of law.

We have deep specialist regulatory expertise across all areas of economic regulation. We have consistently acted on many of Australia's leading competition matters.

In Australia, our client base spans all key industry sectors: technology and innovation; financial institutions; energy and resources; infrastructure, mining and commodities; transport; consumer markets; life sciences and healthcare; and government. The successful candidate for this position will be curious and keen to learn the fundamentals about how our clients' businesses work and what drives their success. They will also understand fundamental competition law concepts and their practical application, preferably with an understanding of economics.

In this role, you will be advising corporate domestic and international clients, government clients, and regulators such as the ACCC. You will be involved in and gain exposure to potentially all aspects of competition law and regulation, including:

  • Merger clearance: Advising domestic and international clients on competition issues arising in merger clearances and seeking clearance of domestic, cross-border and multi-jurisdictional transactions from the ACCC.
  • Advice: Providing advice on all aspects of competition and consumer law to support their business success within the bounds of the law.
  • Litigation/dispute resolution : Competition and consumer law dispute resolution and litigation for corporate clients and the ACCC.
  • Investigations : Supporting commercial clients or the ACCC with investigations into anti-competitive conduct, cartels (including criminal cartels) and Australian Consumer Law contraventions
  • Technology and innovation: Advising a range of technology clients on the application of regulatory frameworks in such areas as telecommunications, digital platforms, media law, artificial intelligence and cybersecurity.
  • Energy and renewables : Supporting clients like renewable developers, energy networks, generators and retailers with the nation-wide transition to a net-zero economy, supporting their navigation of regulatory frameworks and novel contract structures, including working on high-profile renewable energy projects.
  • Economic regulation : Assisting clients with licensing, network access and price control in regulated industries, including ports, rail, airports, and shipping,

Requirements

  • 2- 5+ years PQE experience gained within a leading law firm or regulator, with predominant exposure to competition and regulatory and/or consumer law matters
  • Commerciality, curiosity, and an enthusiastic and proactive attitude
  • Exceptional communication skills and strong ability to work well in a team
  • Outstanding attention to detail, analytical, technical and drafting skills
