Junior Associate - Technology and Innovation

Our Technology and Innovation team in Toronto and nationally is highly regarded for its sophistication and broad expertise across a wide array of technology-related matters. We advise some of the world's leading corporations on the legal, regulatory and commercial issues raised by the impact of technology on their businesses. This encompasses businesses across the technology, business services, communications, media, entertainment and consumer markets sectors in both established and emerging markets. We are currently seeking to add to the existing strength of our team by bringing in a junior-level associate with an interest and some exposure to the technology and innovation space, including technology related M&A, technology contracts and the regulatory landscape (data protection, privacy and cybersecurity).

This presents an incredible opportunity to join a world-class group of professionals at an established Canadian law firm with a significant international legal practice. It is also an opportunity to be part of a collaborative, collegial and innovative team, which has a significant focus on training, mentorship and development.

The ideal candidate will possess an LL.B or JD degree and will also have:

  • 1 to 4 years of related private practice or in-house experience;
  • exposure to technology agreements, such as technology outsourcing, cloud services, licensing, joint development arrangements, e-commerce, data sharing, distribution agreements and/or competitive/public technology procurements;
  • familiarity with privacy and data protection matters;
  • exposure to transactional matters, including M&A and/or financings;
  • exceptional client service, interpersonal and communication skills, strong organizational abilities, and a willingness to learn and take initiative;
  • demonstrated commercial acumen and a pragmatic, business focused outlook; and
  • strong personal and professional integrity and a hard-working, team-centric and passionate approach.
