The Information, Communications &
Technology (ICT) practice forms part of our wider Corporate &
Commercial Group, and enjoys a leading reputation in the market. The
ICT group works primarily for clients in Simmons & Simmons' key
sectors (TMT, Financial Institutions, Asset Management and Life
Sciences), such clients representing some of the most well-known
brands in those sectors, on the full range of technology and
sourcing transactions. It also provides related advisory services
(such as data protection).
The contract / transactional work
undertaken includes the following, acting for both suppliers and
users of ICT products and services:
Outsourcing - IT, business process, HR, FM, F&A,
communications, call centre and telecoms network.
IT procurement - hardware, software licensing and
development, data centre services and cloud computing.
Telecoms - network build and operate arrangements,
satellite, submarine cable and wireless systems.
E-commerce - linking and affiliate deals and
acquisition of content.
Market data and electronic exchanges.
Our advisory expertise and experience includes:
Data protection/privacy - advising on data protection
compliance issues on a global basis including GDPR compliance,
data security incidents, transfers of data outside the country of
origin, recording/monitoring of communications, subject access
requests and freedom of information.
Telecoms and broadcasting regulation - advising on
ownership controls, licence grant and conditions, market
liberalisation, regulatory complaints and disputes and consumer
protection issues.
E-commerce - advising on e-commerce rules, distance
selling regulations, electronic marketing and advertising, e-money
competitions and gaming and defences to liability for ISPs.
Media - advising on regulatory aspects of
broadcasting and satellite services.
Role:
We are seeking a Managing
Associate/Consultant, ideally with at least 7 years' PQE, to join
the Corporate & Commercial team in Hong Kong. You will work with
Partners and Associates across other offices, as part of a
collegiate and supportive international group.
You will have the opportunity to work on
high-value and often high profile matters within a firm which has an
excellent reputation for the quality of ICT work that it undertakes.
You will have had experience in handling general commercial
contracts and most of the ICT transactional work described above.
Experience in data protection advisory work would be required and
experience in the other advisory work described above would be
welcome as well.
Person Specification:
You will ideally have at least 7 years' post
qualification experience;
You will have excellent academics;
Proficiency in Chinese is desirable but not a must;
You will have a strong client focus with the ability
and willingness to get actively involved in marketing and business development;
You will be commercially driven and able to work
effectively as part of a diverse and inclusive team;
You will be ambitious and enthused by the prospect of
building an ICT practice in Hong Kong based on the platform of our
strong international ICT practice and strong local client base; and
You will have a flexible approach to your work and a
willingness to work additional hours on occasion as required.
