Description
Position summary:
Working closely with fee earners and other members of
the M&BD team, the Business Development Manager (BDM) will play a vital
role in ensuring the successful execution of marketing and business development initiatives
across Hong Kong and Singapore. Using a client, sector and product led approach, they will be
responsible for developing and implementingrevenue generating ideas in conjunction with fee earner teams.
We are looking for an ambitious, energetic and driven
BD professional with a desire to succeed and a proven track record of delivering strategic and
integrated M&BD plans. The BDM will have strong interpersonal skills and a preference for verbal
communication rather than email. Strong in the full range of BD skills, the BDM will be able to
work with and influence fee earners to clearly articulate key sales messages in both oral and written communications.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
Responsibility for the full gamit of BD and
marketing tactics: deliver high-quality, targeted and valuable tactical BD initiatives, such
as integrated, forward looking issues-based marketing campaigns, external market positioning
activities, marketing communications materials including client insights (and the mailing
processes), client events & hospitality, legal directory entries and award submissions to
supplement the business development goals of the practices. Support visiting partners to the
region be maximising their time spent on the ground. In addition, there is responsibility for the
timeliness, consistency and quality of BD tools, e.g. client and target lists, collateral,
master deal lists, credentials, CVs.
Opportunity spotting: conduct research and analysis of market
developments. Develop market knowledge, understanding and insights to
identify potential business opportunities and expanding existing business, as well as raising
the practice's profile via events, conferences, client seminars and PR opportunities.
Winning new work: end to end management of the tendering process,
including go/no-go decisions, organising kick off meetings, managing the
logistics of the pitch process for any local or multi-jurisdictional assigned pitches,
gathering of relevant material and information and writing formal responses.
Cross-office coordination: assist in driving cooperation and interaction
across the Asia region to ensure a cohesive and coordinated service
offering and to ensure messages are delivered to the market via close working
relationships between partners, associates and clients. 'Connect the dots' within the product
groups, within the Asia offices and other parts of the firm. Share ideas and best practice with BD
colleagues and partners and fee earners to continually improve the quality of the BD service.
Key Relationships:
Daily contact with Head of Marketing and Business
Development, Asia to deliver marketing and business development strategy for Asia.
Build strong relationships with fee earners across
the region (primarily in Hong Kong and Singapore) and the wider global network.
Frequent contact with global marketing and business
development team members to ensure best practice and enhance opportunities for cross-selling.
Engagement with business services areas and other
parts of the business to ensure an integrated approach to the achievement of firm-wide
business objectives.
Develop relationships with event organisers, trade
bodies and journalists, as appropriate.
Education/Experience/Qualifications:
Minimum of four years marketing or BD experience,
with at least 12 months experience in a professional services firm or relevant sector preferred.
University degree in business, marketing or related
area. Professional marketing qualification is desirable.
