Role Overview

Working as part of the Knowledge & LPM team you will have responsibility for the acquisition and management of the firm's online and hardcopy research resources. You will have operational responsibility for managing the resources budget and ensuring expenditure remains within budget. You will also act as the key point of contact for suppliers and RPC's finance team and manage invoicing and payment for all resources.

Key responsibilities

  • Actively managing and evaluating the firm's online and hard copy research resources including: user needs assessments, consultation with key stakeholders, analysis of usage statistics, assessing value and identifying cost savings where possible.
  • Ongoing monitoring of new publications and resources and purchasing of new materials including books, journals and online publications.
  • Managing the renewals for all resources, including negotiation of contracts.
  • Ensuring that full value is realised from each research resource by: promoting the resource to the relevant teams; making use of customisation features (e.g. report templates) to enhance user experience; organising supplier-led training; and working with the Current Awareness Lead to ensure that relevant subscription resources are incorporated into RPC's news aggregation tool Manzama.
  • Maintaining an overview of the resources budget, ensuring that expenditure remains within budget and any issues are identified and raised with the Research Manager. Providing budget projections and reports as necessary.
  • Fostering good working relationships with key third party suppliers including database providers, external acquisitions agents and looseleafing services.
  • Establishing and implementing a resources management policy for RPC covering the life-cycle of the collections process from purchasing through to disposal.
  • Overseeing the work of the Research Specialist (Collections) and Research Assistant, increasing their confidence in dealing with resources related queries.
  • Regularly reviewing and updating resources management processes, identifying and implementing efficiencies.
  • Building the best possible working relationship with other RPC teams, e.g. Cashiers and Facilities, to ensure that where work spans multiple teams (e.g. invoicing) it is seamless and that issues are quickly identified and rectified.
  • Acting as Systems Administrator for the firm's Library Management System (Olib) ensuring that the system is used as effectively as possible for the management of the firm's resources.
  • Covering for other team members as and when required to ensure continued service delivery.

Position requirements

  • A degree or post-graduate qualification in a library or information related discipline is essential.
  • Excellent understanding of information and knowledge resources, databases and associated technology.
  • Good proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite of applications is essential and experience of using collaborative and information management tools commonly used in law firms is preferable.
  • Proven experience in an Information Services or a related discipline is essential, including knowledge of key legal resources.
  • Experience of library resources management including evaluation, purchasing, cataloguing, renewals and archiving.
  • Strong numeracy and budgeting skills and familiarity with procurement processes.
  • Strong negotiation skills and experience of negotiating online contracts.
  • Experience of using library management systems and the necessary understanding to act as systems administrator.

Working conditions

  • This is a permanent position, working a minimum of 4 days per week.
  • This role is based in the Bristol office with occasional travel to the London office.
