Department/Role overview

The Server Engineer role within the IT Workplace Delivery team will support the delivery of projects within the firm's Workplace portfolio. The primary focus of the role will be implementation support for these projects, which include new office fitouts and office refurbishments. The role will also include supporting other IT projects and BAU work, where required.

Main responsibilities

  • Technical delivery of office fitout projects, ensuring that all required infrastructure services (eg AD, DNS, DHCP, print, IT comms room power & monitoring) are operational and available on day 1
  • Delivery of assigned projects in line with agreed deadlines and quality standards
  • Adherence to the firm's Incident, Problem, Change and Configuration processes.
  • Providing and maintaining internal procedural and technical documentation
  • Identification of automation and simplification opportunities allowing tasks and processes to be carried out with less manual overhead.

  • Risk and Control: Ensure that all activities and duties are carried out in full compliance with the firm's regulatory requirements and internal policies.

Essential skills and experience

  • In- depth knowledge of Dell compute & storage hardware
  • In- depth knowledge of VMware
  • In-depth knowledge of DNS and DHCP
  • In- depth knowledge of Windows 2012/2016/2019 Server
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Active Directory 2012, 2016 & 2019 including GPO
  • In-depth knowledge of contemporary UPS and PDU systems and technology, including sizing, particularly APC brand
  • Understanding of IT server room cooling systems
  • Experience working with project managers to deliver projects in accordance with agreed design and applicable standards.
  • Demonstrated ability to work irregular hours and travel when required, particularly during the delivery phase of projects.
  • Ability to problem-solve and find solutions in a timely fashion in an unfamiliar environment.
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Extensive experience and aptitude in producing technical documentation.
  • Experience working in an environment with strict SLA's.
  • Experience with Agile working practices and delivery
  • Understanding of Vulnerability Management
  • An understanding of LAN / WAN technologies
  • IT procurement experience, including vendor liaison

Desired skills and experience

  • Experience with Equitrac
  • Experience with Zerto
  • Strong Powershell scripting
  • Experience with Dell Open Manage
  • Azure experience, in particular good knowledge of Azure AD and AD Sync
  • Experience configuring & supporting ADFS and SSO technologies.
  • ITIL certification
  • Experience with monitoring solutions - e.g., PRTG, Solarwinds
  • Exposure to a scripting language such as Windows Scripting Host or VB script.
  • Experience administering MS Teams, Teams Rooms
  • Knowledge of infrastructure standards (e.g., ISO)
  • Experience of working in a professional services environment
  • Experience with raising and following-up on IT vendor support requests.
  • Understanding of Business Continuity & Disaster Recovery
