Team overview

We are currently looking for a September 24 NQ lawyer to join our team in the London office.

The Ashurst Derivatives & Structured Products Group is led by six Partners / Consultants all of whom are well recognised within the market and legal directories. The Derivatives team as a whole is rated Tier 1 by Legal 500. It's a strong and tightly-knit team, and one that is keen to grow further, building on a successful track record.

The team has fantastic clients, including a range of major investment banks and funds and operates at the top of its market with a broad product offering, including OTC derivatives across all asset classes, securitised product issuances and platforms, repo, securities lending and related activities, asset repackaging and collateralised financing structures, digital assets and fintech and capital- and liquidity-driven transaction. Those products can be complex, and they are constantly evolving to respond to market changes. In addition to transactional work, and given the dense legal and regulatory environment in which we operate, there is a strong advisory and analytical component to what we do.

Successful applicants will have a balance of attributes to meet these demands, will need to be intellectually curious and business-minded and above all will need to relish the challenge. They will be strongly supported by senior lawyers, by an extensive training programme, by IT, automation and newlaw resources and by a dedicated legal expertise function.

Job overview

Working as part of a team, you will act on all elements of a deal from term sheet stage, through negotiation of transaction documents to closing and post-closing. Alternatively, if the brief is advisory, you will to analyse the issue, drawing on the Firm's expertise resources, and prepare initial views and advice before engaging with senior colleagues. In either case you will interact with clients and with colleagues from the globe and across the Firm, and will need to be responsive to client needs and open to opportunities to grow your expertise and the business as a whole.

Main Tasks

  • Drafting of legal documents and agreements;
  • Review of legal documents and agreements;
  • Contributing to department know-how;
  • Advising clients and preparing formal legal opinions;
  • Leading negotiations with counter parts; and
  • Matter completion and post-closing work

Essential skills and experience

  • Newly qualified lawyer ideally with experience in international finance transactions of the types referred to above with a top international law firm;
  • Previous experience of working on complex finance deals (of any type) during training;
  • Good organisational skills and experience in transaction management;
  • Excellent academic track record;
  • Experience of cross-border work;
  • Excellent client relationship skills and experience of business development.
  • Attention to detail.
