Department/Role overview:

Data and information is one of the most important assets of the firm and therefore the holistic governance is key. This is especially important as Ashurst has embarked on an ambitious Data Strategy to support the firm's digital transformation journey.

This role is in the data governance team, which is a centralised function within the Ashurst Service Centre supporting the global firm.

The role will provide Data Governance advisory services across the firm and provide support to the more senior data governance professionals.

This role works across most aspects of data governance with support, enabling the operationalisation of Ashurst's Data Governance Framework. It will include developing definitions, data artefacts, documenting business rules and supporting firm projects so that that the firm's data can be managed well.

The data governance team plays an essential role in enabling Ashurst to manage their data well as is expected from our Clients and being a top tier law firm.

Main responsibilities:

  • Produce artefacts such as data flow diagrams; and interface control documents (integration data mapping documents) in conjunction with project teams and SME's.
  • Support IT and the business with the documentation of the business and technical metadata for Critical Data Elements.
  • Elicit and document the business rules for critical and important data.
  • Work with IT and business teams as a Data Governance specialist, helping the teams deliver change and advising on best practice.
  • Engage with business SME's/data stewards to document data definitions that are easily understood and unambiguous. Ensure ongoing maintenance and cross referencing of data definitions.
  • Support in the delivery of Data Stewardship and Data Ownership.
  • Respond to ad-hoc requests for information, in line with agreed service levels.

Essential skills and experience:

  • An understanding of Data Governance principles and deliverables.
  • Excellent analytical and creative problem solving skills.
  • Ability to actively contribute in collaborative sessions and not afraid to speak up.
  • Good stakeholder management skills with an ability to challenge decisions and make recommendations that are followed up on.
  • Ability to demonstrate good judg e ment and business awareness.
  • Drive to deliver excellent customer service.
  • Ability to collaborate in a team environment and exercise independent judg e
  • Open to change with a proactive and flexible attitude and a willingness to work outside of their comfort zone to promote their learning and development.
  • Keen interest in knowing the business and lateral/analytical thinking.
  • Willingness and desire to learn about Data Management best practices.
  • Proficiency in working under pressure, multi-tasking and prioritising work.
  • Ability to form collaborative relationships across business functions.
  • Skilled in engaging with both business and technical stakeholders.
  • Proficiency across the MS Office Suite.
  • Thorough attention to detail.
  • Adaptable, with the ability to work independently on multiple, high profile data led projects.
  • Ability t o work efficiently and use initiative.

Desired skills and experience:

  • Experience of an analytical role in a professional services company would be advantageous.
  • Experience of working in a global team.
  • Experience of using Microsoft Visio .
