Team overview

We represent State, state-owned entities and major global companies on their most significant disputes. We help out clients avoid and settle disputes in a satisfactory manner. We also help our clients through formal dispute resolution mechanisms including international arbitration, and alternative dispute resolution such as mediation and expert determination.

We have teams specialized in commercial, construction and investment treaty arbitration proceedings.

Job

Arabic speaking junior to mid-level associate specialised in international arbitration based in Riyadh, KSA.

Essential skills and experience

The candidate must:

  • be a qualified junior to mid-level associate with academic qualification and/or post-qualification law firm experience in international arbitration.
  • be a native Arabic speaker with a professional level in English.
  • be a civil or common law trained/qualified lawyer, with a preference to civil law trained/qualified candidates.
  • be hard working, available, proactive and responsive.
  • have excellent attention to detail, communication, organisational and drafting skills.
  • be willing to learn and develop within a growing disputes team.
  • be able to contribute to professional development and know-how and participate in internal and client trainings.
  • be able to contribute to business development efforts.

Recent work

The team has most recently represented:

  • a UK energy company against a MENA NOC in a USD 2+ billion UNCITRAL arbitration relating to the termination of production sharing agreement over the exploration, development and exploitation of a gas field in the MENA region.

  • an energy project company against the contractor in a USD 400 million ICC arbitration seated in London relating to the construction of a regasification plant in the MENA region.

Secondment opportunities

Opportunities often arise for associates to spend time on secondment in house with a key client of the firm. From time to time, secondment opportunities also come up within other Ashurst offices in Europe, North America, Asia and Australia.
