Department/Role overview

This role requires a very experienced professional with extensive knowledge of data management and business intelligence. A key requirement is the resolution of complex problems that do not have routine solutions, while working independently and with minimal guidance.

Based on the knowledge of your own experience, you will proactively support management in achieving the firm's strategy by engaging in operational Business Intelligence activities which may include, but are not limited to:

  • developing and implementing data warehouse designs that support demands for business intelligence and data analytics.
  • identifying and validating internal and external data sets generated from a diverse range of business and operational processes.
  • transforming the results of analysis into information that can be communicated to stakeholders using dashboards and reports.
  • interpreting and analysing data, comparative analysis, benchmarking, trend analysis.
  • focusing on data quality to provide confidence for making decisions on a single version of the truth.

Main responsibilities

Functional Responsibilities

  • Maintenance and delivery of efficient data services through data management, data warehousing, analytics, reporting, and any other data-related systems or practices that come under the remit of the team as the organisation evolves.
  • Within established Ashurst policy and business practices, collaborate with other team members to achieve required outcomes as directed by the Business Intelligence Manager.
  • Proactively contribute to ensuring business intelligence processes are robust, efficient and fit for purpose, focusing on automation, key controls and data quality.

Data Management Responsibilities

  • Assess the integrity of data from multiple sources, ensuring data is appropriately stored and archived, in line with relevant legislation.
  • Provide advice on the transformation of data from one format/medium to another. Maintain and implement information handling procedures.
  • Enable the availability, integrity and searchability of information through the application of formal data and metadata structures and protection measures.
  • Investigate enterprise data requirements where there is some complexity and ambiguity.
  • Plan own data modelling and design activities, selecting appropriate techniques and the correct level of detail for meeting assigned objectives.

Relationship Responsibilities

  • Manage relationships with stakeholders to support and enhance the toolsets used by the team. Identify opportunities to digitise and streamline operational data handling and optimise business intelligence capabilities.
  • Engage with Ashurst data owners, producers and consumers globally. This should be achieved by advocating a self-sufficient data community and through contact with stakeholders while executing duties.

Skills and experience

  • Minimum of 10 years' Business Intelligence experience - deep knowledge of dimensional modelling and the BI domain, both current and future trends. Knowledge of data protection legislation globally, and data management is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated capability to gather and translate data requirements from stakeholders into repeatable, performant processes and reporting structures is essential.
  • Proactive approach, self-motivated, with the ability to work to realistic and challenging goals. Common-sense style of working, works within policy and procedure but remains business enabling.
  • An analytical lateral thinker with the ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines, maintaining excellent attention to detail.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate clearly and persuasively, orally or in writing, at all levels.
