Job Title Senior Associate - Projects & Energy Transition (Singapore based role)

The Opportunity

Ashurst's Projects & Energy Transition team in Singapore are looking for a lawyer with at least 4 years post admission experience, predominantly gained in the projects & energy transition area. This is an exciting opportunity for a solicitor in Australia to move to Singapore to gain an exceptional experience and deepen their knowledge of high value projects in the APAC region. The successful candidate will be supported on the ground by Partners and colleagues in Singapore, as well as the broader global Ashurst team.

In this role, you will:

  • Have day to day responsibility for matters, with extensive direct client contact and contact with local counsel.
  • Support on the structuring of financing arrangements, as well as drafting and reviewing of financing term sheets, core financing documentation (e.g. common terms agreements, facility agreements, shareholder support agreements, intercreditor agreements), hedging documentation and drafting and/or supervising more junior lawyers developing security documents and ancillary financing documentation.
  • Negotiate, with appropriate partner support, with counterparties.
  • Manage and supervise signing and closing of conditions precedent under the relevant documentation.
  • Advise on waivers under any financing documentation.
  • Attend business development and networking activities.
  • Nurture and mentor junior lawyers and provide leadership in conjunction with partners.


Desired Skills and Experience:

  • Relevant legal qualifications (preferably gained in English or Singaporean Law).
  • Minimum 4 years' legal experience gained (preferably) within private practice.
  • Experience working on project financing documentation including financing term sheets, core financing documentation (e.g. common terms agreements, facility agreements, shareholder support agreements, intercreditor agreements) and security documents, as well as managing waiver processes and signing and closing processes.
  • Experience with development banks/multilaterals and export credit agencies is preferred but not essential.
  • Experience working in South and South East Asia is preferred but not essential.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills (including drafting) and excellent organisational skills.
  • Confidence to lead effective negotiations with clients and counterparties.
  • Strong ability to communicate with and listen to clients in order to understand their needs and how best to meet them. Experience working with local counsel in other jurisdictions and delivering an integrated product.
  • Excellent attention to detail and the ability to identify inconsistencies that indicate problems with quality of work or a misunderstanding of clients' needs.
  • A proactive, positive and energetic approach with a commitment to providing excellent service and a desire to interact with the market and build client relationships.


All work is performed in English, but any additional languages (Asian or not) are welcome.
