The Opportunity:

Ashurst advises on all aspects of environmental law, ranging from obtaining approvals and consents, responding to high profile environmental incidents, defending legal challenges to planning approvals, environmental compliance obligations, compulsory acquisition and land access litigation and regulatory reviews to assisting clients to respond to the changing regulatory environment relating to climate change.

The Planning, Access and Environment Team in Sydney is growing and looking for a senior environment and planning lawyer (who also may have experience in native title law) who is keen to join one of Australia's leading practices and work on the full range of Environment, Planning and Native Title matters, both front and back end.

The role will involve working closely with other teams in the broader firm nationally on a range of market leading work, whilst receiving guidance and mentorship from highly experienced and friendly Partners.

About You:

  • 4 to 6 years of environment and planning experience gained within a reputable law firm, with 1 to 2 years at Senior Associate level;
  • Experience in class 3, 4 and/or 5 proceedings in the NSW Land and Environment Court is desired;
  • Additional experience in native title and Aboriginal cultural heritage would be highly regarded but is not essential;
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal;
  • A strong drafting ability;
  • A commercial approach to negotiating contracts; and
  • A proactive, positive and energetic approach with a commitment to providing excellent service.
