Job Title Associate - Projects & Energy Transition (Singapore-based role)

The Opportunity

The Projects & Energy Transition team in Singapore are looking for a lawyer with at least 1 to 2 years' legal experience. The role offers an exceptional learning experience that combines development and finance work, allowing you to engage with a diverse array of sectors and industries, while receiving guidance and support from seniors and partners.

In this role, you will:

  • Manage straightforward matters on a daily basis while actively advancing more complex issues with support from senior associates and partners.
  • Draft and review security and other straightforward finance documents and assist in drafting and negotiating sections of more complex finance documents.
  • Draft and review shareholder/joint venture, concession, construction, operation, supply and offtake arrangements and relevant ancillary arrangements, with a focus on bankability, both in the context of representing sponsors/project companies and as part of the due diligence process when representing lenders.
  • Negotiate, with senior associate/partner support as appropriate, with counterparties.
  • Support, and in due course manage, signing and closing of conditions precedent under the relevant documentation.
  • Support on business development initiatives.


Desired Skills and Experience:

  • At least 1 to 2 years' legal experience gained within private practice.
  • Qualified in Singapore, England & Wales, Australia or any other suitable common law jurisdiction.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills (including drafting) and excellent organisational skills.
  • Strong ability to communicate with and listen to clients in order to understand their needs and how best to meet them. Experience working with local counsel in other jurisdictions and delivering an integrated product.
  • Lateral thinker to develop innovative solutions to issues that arise during transactions.
  • Excellent attention to detail and the ability to identify inconsistencies that indicate problems with quality of work or a misunderstanding of clients' needs.
  • Ability to build team morale and motivate team members, contributing to the creation of a positive work environment and to assist with training and development.
  • A proactive, positive and energetic approach with a commitment to providing excellent service and a desire to interact with the market and build client relationships.
  • Experience in the energy and natural resources sector (e.g., power, LNG, oil and gas, mining, etc.) and has an interest in energy transition, including in low carbon and carbon capture.
  • Experience advising on energy projects, including project development, acquisitions and disposals, joint venture/shareholders' agreements, commercial contracts and/or project financing.


All work is performed in English, but any additional languages (Asian or not) are welcome.
