The Opportunity:

Our Venture Capital & Tech M&A team are looking to recruit a lawyer to join our Sydney office.

The Venture Capital & Tech M&A team sits within the Ashurst's Corporate Transaction team and has the leading legal practice advising high growth companies raising funds and venture capital funds and corporate investors making investments in these companies. The Venture Capital & Tech M&A team also advise on mergers and acquisitions and IPOs within the tech sector.

Ashurst's broader Corporate Transactions team works on a wide range of corporate transactions including, takeovers, schemes of arrangements, asset acquisitions, restructuring and joint venture arrangements. The client base includes a number of Australia's leading ASX listed corporate, domestic and foreign PE funds and global corporate and investment companies.

Ashurst combines the benefit of a leading corporate practice with a supportive and collegiate environment. Ashurst has a proven track record in developing lawyers and the vacancy represents an outstanding opportunity for a team player with strong technical skills and a commercial approach.

To succeed in this role you will need:

  • 3+ years' corporate experience gained within a top-tier firm, mid-tier or by a combination of private practice and in-house;
  • Ideally venture capital and/or fundraising and M&A experience (or have a keen interest in the venture capital and tech sector);
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal;
  • Confident and effective in negotiations with clients and counterparties;
  • Strong technical proficiency and superior drafting ability;
  • A commercial approach and an ability to articulate and negotiate effectively;
  • Strong attention to detail with well-developed analytical skills;
  • The ability to be team-focused as a dynamic team player and also work independently; and
  • A proactive, positive and energetic approach with a commitment to providing excellent service and, a desire to interact with the market and build client relationships.
