About Ashurst

Ashurst is a leading global law firm with a history spanning 200 years and a vision to be the most progressive global law firm.

Our in-depth understanding of our clients and commitment to providing exceptional standards of service have seen us become a trusted adviser to local and global corporates, financial institutions and governments in all areas of commercial law.

With offices across the globe, we offer the reach, insight and career opportunities of a truly integrated global network that is built on our values of being passionate about quality, delivering through collaboration and thinking differently.

Our values are critical to the culture of our firm and sum up what we stand for, what makes Ashurst an exceptional place to work and what we aspire to be. For us, "progressive" is a mind-set, an approach to how we do things. We instinctively take a fresh perspective on situations, exploring whether there are better ways of achieving our clients' goals as well as our own.

We also aim to be at the forefront of the evolution of our industry and have led the market by establishing our New Law Division (Ashurst Advance) and our Consulting Division to provide holistic legal and operational advice to our clients.

About the team

Ashurst is one of a handful of major global law firms for which real estate remains a key area of focus and of strategic importance.

The real estate group operates as a single global team providing new and longstanding clients with advice from our network of international offices on all types of real estate driven transactions including large scale urban regeneration projects (including residential schemes, office buildings, shopping centres, hotels, business parks, leisure projects and industrial sites), direct and indirect investment, joint ventures and co-investment structures and real estate funds.

We act for clients in every part of the real estate sector: financiers, governments, investors (with a strong focus on inbound capital from overseas), pension funds, developers, contractors, operators and asset managers.

Marquee clients - We advise a diverse range of "market making" clients (funds, institutional investors (including sovereign entities), investment banks, developers), on some of the most complex and innovative deals. These clients include Barings; Tritax, one of only a handful of FTSE100 Real estate funds; Transport for London; Oxford Properties, the global asset manager with $81 billion of assets, Lendlease the globally integrated real estate developer and investor; Deutsche Bank, the multinational New York Stock Exchange listed bank, to name but a few.

A strategically important practice - Ashurst continues its investment and firm-wide support for real estate. This is demonstrated by the fact Real Estate is a Global Division at Ashurst and two partners in the practice holding senior positions in the firm's management structure - David Jones, who is a member of the firm's global board and, Sarah Sivyour, who sits on the firm's global executive management committee.

Quality of our team - We have an outstanding team of partners, all of whom have either come up through the ranks from trainee (Richard Vernon, David Jones, Sarah Sivyour, Henry Moss, Chris Benbow) or joined as junior associates (Melanie Jordan, Tim Regis, Jamie Chapman).

Global coverage - Ashurst is a truly global firm with 30 offices across 20 countries. Real estate is a global asset class and our clients rely on our ability to advise them wherever they choose to invest.

Breadth of practice - Ashurst remain one of the few law firms with top tier capabilities across all of real estate investment, development and regeneration, corporate real estate, real estate funds, finance, and tax . The practice also boasts market leading expertise in planning and environment, construction and a dedicated real estate disputes team.

Innovative growth sectors - We are first choice for clients investing in growth sectors such as data centres, life sciences, logistics, transport and infrastructure and advising clients on the impact of ESG and specifically sustainability in this sector. We also work in concert with our market leading projects, energy transition and infrastructure teams to deliver the most innovative solutions to clients who operate in these sectors.
