With a growing base of clients in Sydney we would love to talk to lawyers with a current Practising Certificate (or ability to obtain one) who are interested in exploring opportunities to work with Ashurst clients or within one of the firm's Practice Groups.

We work with clients in all major cities in Australia. Most roles are hybrid and we can work with you to find a role that suits you in terms of numbers of days/hours worked.

Consumer Credit lawyers needed

We have had a consistent influx of roles seeking consumer credit lawyers in Sydney. If you are a strong consumer credit lawyer with any of the following skills and are either a seasoned consultant/contract lawyer looking for a fresh approach, or a lawyer thinking of taking the leap to flex-working, get in touch with our Talent Manager, Fiona Craig, to find out more.

Skills and Experience needed:

  • Experience and knowledge of Australian Consumer Credit and privacy regimes
  • Knowledge and experience of retail banking, wealth, private banking and the Australian banking and financial services legal regime and procurement law
  • Experience in the drafting and negotiation of a broad range of commercial contracts, supplier contracts, platform agreements and disclosure statements across the spectrum of retail and wealth management products
  • Experience providing legal guidance in relation to a wide range of laws and regulations such as the National Consumer Credit Protection Act, National Credit Code, Banking Code of Practice, the Corporations Act and unfair contracts laws
  • Experience in financial regulation or technology related contracts and advisory activities
  • Experience in providing legal and regulatory advice across new products and services, material activities and projects and proactively anticipating legal issues and identifying future legal requirements
  • Experience in monitoring and providing advice on changes in relevant laws, regulations and industry standards
  • The ability to understand and troubleshoot complex commercial legal and regulatory issues, consult with relevant stakeholders and propose practical solutions
  • Strong collaborative, organisational and project management abilities
  • Ability to provide support with key strategic projects and/or BAU

As well as excellent legal experience you will need:

  • Senior stakeholder management skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with ability to interface at all levels, building strong relationships externally and internally
  • Strong commercial and business acumen
  • An excellent client service focus, ethic and commitment
  • The right to live and work in Australia (and be based here) and hold or be able to obtain a current practising certificate
  • Willingness to engage with Ashurst via an Independent Incorporated Legal Practice or casual employment
