What does this opportunity involve?

Through a series of interactive panel discussions, you will learn more about what a career in law entails, the skills and knowledge needed to navigate law firm recruitment processes and tips for thriving at university and/or in the world of law.

The programme will be run virtually ensuring that all students, no matter their geographic location can benefit from the opportunity. Participants will require access to the internet, a computer/laptop or mobile device (such as tablet or mobile phone) to take part in this programme.

Programme overview:

• Session 1: What is commercial law?
• Session 2: Careers in commercial law
• Session 3: Recruitment top tips: Application forms & online assessments
• Session 4: What is commercial awareness and why is it important?
• Session 5: Social mobility: Top tips for harnessing your strengths in the legal profession
• Session 6: Recruitment top tips: Preparing for an interview/assessment centre
• Session 7: Preparing for university and a career in law

Who are we looking for?

• You must be in Year 12/13 (England and Wales), S5/S6 (Scotland), Lower Sixth/Upper Sixth (Northern Ireland) or 5th Year/6th Year (Republic of Ireland).
• You're attending, and have attended from aged 11, a state-funded, non-fee-paying school/college.
• You are interested in studying law at university or gaining employment in a law-related field after school/university.
• You have grown up in household where no parent or guardian attended university.

You must meet one or more of the below criteria outlined by Prime :

• Be currently in receipt of, or have previously received, free school meals, Pupil Premium, Education Maintenance Allowance and/or 16 to 19 Bursary.
• Be currently in or have previously been in local authority care (for a period of 3 months or longer).
• Be currently or have been, a full-time or part-time carer.
• Have come to the UK as a refugee or asylum seeker.
• Be attending a state school or college with:
  • below average A-Level or Higher point score and/or
  • low rate of progression to higher education.
