The Team
Our Litigation, Regulatory and
Public Law team is a market leader in the health, social care and
local government sectors and continues to grow its profile and
client base in the financial services, commercial, and higher
education sectors. The team sits within the Litigation, Advisory
& Regulatory department which deals with substantial commercial,

public bodies such as local authorities, health trusts, regulators,
oversight bodies, statutory bodies, and we also act for higher
education institutions and corporates including private and charity
sector providers of public services.
In joining our growing team, you
will have the opportunity to work for a number of the firm's key
strategic clients and a range of partner leads and colleagues,
across several of the firm's key sectors, whilst managing your own
caseload. Given the nature of our clients the cases on which we work
regularly touch on live socio-economic or political issues whether
that be within local government, health, higher education or
financial services; often raising novel issues. We find that our
work is highly rewarding as a result. We have strong and trusted
partnerships with the clients we work with who genuinely value our
support and tell us so.
The team wholeheartedly embrace
hybrid working with each colleague having flexibility to
self-determine what works for them. The firm has an exciting and
ambitious strategic growth plan, which means there is significant
opportunity to support career progression for the right candidate.
The role
We are recruiting a solicitor
(3-5PQE) to join our busy and diverse litigation, advisory and
regulatory team working for a range of public and private sector
clients across all of our sectors. The role will focus on the
regulatory and public law work that we do. The successful candidate
will be involved in:
Advising regulatory bodies,
across sectors including financial services, professional
discipline and other sector and economic regulators, on the use of
their regulatory powers, including handling appeals and public law
challenges.
Advising ombuds schemes on
decision-making and handling complaints and challenges
Advising public services
providers, commissioners and regulators on their decision-making,
including the risk of judicial review
Handling judicial review claims
in the High Court and appellate courts
Supporting clients in responding
to regulatory interventions
Supporting clients engaging with
public inquiries, including advice on disclosure obligations and
responding to r9 requests/s21 notices.
What we are looking for from you
Experience of acting for or an
interest in public bodies is essential. The successful candidate
will work with partners and associates on business development, so
an interest in supporting business development activities and
initiatives would be beneficial.

Responsible business
To us, being a responsible business is second nature; a core part of
Bevan Brittan's identity, running through our culture and embodied by
the clients we serve. We want to demonstrate our commitment to these
causes through actions rather than words; colleagues from across the
firm are already heavily involved, living and breathing the four
pillars of our Responsible Business strategy:
Community Engagement -Each lawyer has the
opportunity to undertake pro bono legal work for local charities and
not-for-profit organisations. We also play an active role through
our local office communities, in 2023 we fundraised and donated a
total of £100,000 to our four regional office charities, with each
charity receiving £25,000 to help fund their vital services.
Environmental Sustainability- Bevan Brittan is
proudly a carbon neutral firm. We have achieved the UN's Climate
Neutral Now accreditation and our environmental sustainability plan
is focused on achieving our net zero carbon target.
Equality, Diversity & Inclusion- We have a
strong and vibrant diversity programme that gives colleagues across
the firm an opportunity to take part, led by our Equality, Diversity
& Inclusion Committee and supported by our Ambassadors, who
drive engagement in our strategy and raise awareness across the firm.
Wellbeing -We are proud of our open culture, where
colleagues feel empowered to speak openly about physical and mental
health issues and to seek out support when needed. We have trained
21 colleagues across the firm as Mental Health First Aider s and
established a programme of initiatives including our informal
'coffee with' scheme.
Collectively, these four pillars ensure we look after our colleagues'
wellbeing; offer an environment in which all can progress on merit,
regardless of personal circumstances or background; give something
back to the communities in which we work; and protect the environment.
