As our construction team continues to grow we are looking to recruit a new Associate, based in our Birmingham, Bristol, Leeds or London offices, to be part of the team working on contentious construction dispute resolution and advisory work.

The national construction team currently has 5 partners, and has ambitious plans for future growth at all levels. You will be part of a team that advises a wide range of construction dispute matters, ranging from traditional final account/loss and expense type claims, to significant defect issues and PFI/projects disputes (PFI experience is desirable but not essential for the role).

The successful candidate will have the ability to manage their own time efficiently, possess excellent drafting and legal analysis skills and have an ability to liaise effectively with clients. Most importantly we are looking for ambitious lawyers who want to take on challenging work in the development of their careers, and we are happy to consider candidates who are looking to work flexibly. The partners have ambitious plans for growth and so career prospects are excellent for the right candidates.

Learn from the best

For this Associate role we are looking for 4 years + PQE (full or part time). Louise is recognised as a Leading Individual in Legal 500 and a Band 2 ranked individual in Chambers & Partners. Judith joined from DLA Piper in September 2018, where she worked on the leading Court of Appeal case of Birmingham City Council v Amey Birmingham Highways Limited. In Birmingham the team were recognised for their skills and expertise winning Property Law Firm of the Year at the prestigious Insider Midlands awards.

Our panel appointments mean that you will have the opportunity to work on high value, complex instructions including local authorities, NHS Trusts and housing associations. The wider relationships within the construction team will also expose you to working within the wider construction industry, including developers, funders and contractors. Some recent examples include:

  • a £23 million PFI highways dispute arising from previously certified milestones;
  • an ongoing issue for a local authority with significant delays and cost overruns to conversion, including a projected overspend of 48% over the contract price of £5.5 million;
  • Instruction by a global engineering company in respect of a dispute over variations to an MF1 contract.
  • Recent appointment to Balfour Beatty plc's UK Legal Panel, a global infrastructure investor operating in both the UK and North America.

Making a local difference

We are a socially responsible business with a focus upon supporting local charity and pro-bono projects, community engagement and championing diversity & equality.

You will be part of a team that values the voluntary contributions made by lawyers in giving free legal help to people in need, with a range of opportunities available across all of our offices.

Together we can make incredible things happen

Overall, we would welcome applicants with experience in construction dispute resolution or who have a mixed contentious and non-contentious construction experience.

We're looking for an excellent lawyer who is a creative thinker with drive and energy who enjoys working with clients. You need to be willing to learn and at Bevan Brittan we really value good team players.
