Job Title Construction Solicitor (2-6 PQE)
Location Any Office

Bevan Brittan is a UK-Top 100 commercial law firm providing a comprehensive range of legal services from offices in Leeds, Birmingham, London and Bristol.

Our market-leading construction team, consisting of 6 partners and 13 other fee earners based across all four of our offices, has a national profile and rankings in both Chambers and Legal 500. Our reputation in education, housing and local authority sectors is second to none and is complemented by a strong practice advising clients operating in health, highways, leisure, waste management and renewable energy, acting for employers and contractors in those market sectors.

We advise clients on the delivery of projects using and adapting industry standard forms or bespoke documentation. We are at the cutting edge of long-term outsourcing and partnership working arrangements and have extensive experience of advising on all the PPP models, including the PFI market. We are involved in a number of the major Government construction programmes for delivery of new hospitals, social housing, schools and highways.

Our experienced team also advises clients on all their informal and formal dispute resolution needs. We advise on adjudications, expert determinations, Court proceedings and arbitrations as well as mediation and dispute avoidance strategies. Our team has developed a significant reputation for our contract review and re-negotiation services in the context of large, long-term public/private contracts.

Rise to the challenge

As our team continues to grow we are looking to recruit a new Solicitor based in any of our offices, to be part of the team working mainly on non-contentious construction work. We are, however, interested to hear from candidates who have experience of and/or an interest in undertaking a balanced role with contentious construction.

The successful candidate will have the ability to manage their own time efficiently, possess excellent drafting and legal analysis skills and have an ability to liaise effectively with clients. Most importantly we are looking for ambitious lawyers who want to take on challenging work in the development of their careers, and we are happy to consider candidates who are looking to work flexibly. The team has grown in recent years and the partners have ambitious plans to continue that growth. Career prospects are therefore excellent for the right candidate.

Learn from the best

You will be a member of a nationally recognised construction team led Andrew Tobin and Jonathan Turner, both of whom specialise in non-contentious construction projects. Andrew and Jonathan are each ranked individuals in Chambers & Partners and the team is ranked in both Chambers and Legal 500 in London, Bristol and Leeds.

Join a team that makes real change happen

You will be working on high value, complex instructions including developers, contractors, end-user clients, central and local government, NHS Trusts and housing associations. Some recent examples include advising on the following projects:

  • City of London Corporation on the new Museum of London
  • Peabody Trust on the delivery of 11,500 new homes at Thamesmead
  • Three NHS Trusts on new hospital projects under the Governments Health Infrastructure Plan
  • The Developer (a JV formed by Places for People and Balfour Beatty Investments) on the delivery of a 1,500 unit mixed tenure development at the Queen Elizabeth Park, London

Making a local difference

We are a socially responsible business with a focus upon supporting local charity and pro-bono projects, community engagement and championing diversity & equality.
You will be part of a team that values the voluntary contributions made by lawyers in giving free legal help to organisations in need, with a range of opportunities available across all of our offices.

Together we can make incredible things happen

Overall, we would welcome applicants with experience in non-construction or who have a mixed contentious and non-contentious construction experience.
We like all our lawyers to be involved in maintaining strong client relationships and developing new relationships and market profile. You will receive support and encouragement to develop your business development and marketing skills.

We’re looking for an excellent lawyer who is a creative thinker with drive and energy who enjoys working with clients. You need to be willing to learn and at Bevan Brittan we really value good team players.
