Rise to the Challenge

We are looking for a pro-active, engaged and organised HR Advisor to join our HR team on a full-time and permanent basis. Applicants will ideally have HR experience in working with fee-earning professionals and even better within the legal sector.

This is a fantastic time to join Bevan Brittan's HR team. The business is growing and there will be plenty of opportunity to make a difference for someone who is flexible, keen to learn, support and work collaboratively with colleagues across the entire employee life cycle.

The role will report to our Senior HR Business Partner (SHRBP) and will be based in our newly refurbished Bristol office. Prior to the pandemic, we already worked in an agile way, providing staff with the equipment needed to work effectively from home and are continuing to work in a hybrid way across the firm. We can therefore offer a high level of flexibility in terms of how you want to split your working week.

We are keen to fill the role quickly (but are of course happy to wait for the right candidate to serve any notice needed) and therefore encourage you to apply as soon as you are able.

On joining, you would:

  • Work closely with the HR team to provide a high quality, pro-active and solutions-focussed generalist HR service to the firm.
  • Support and advise managers on a wide variety of HR and Employee Relations matters in accordance with current legislation and best practice and in a way that builds management capability.
  • Develop strong and trusted relationships with the individuals and managers you speak to on a regular basis.
  • Manage and assist with HR processes such as disciplinary and capability, providing appropriate support and advice and escalating to the wider HR team where necessary.
  • Work with others in the HR team to maintain systems and processes in line with best practice and employment law changes.
  • Together with more senior members of the HR & Recruitment team, help to implement process improvements.
  • Support managers and the HR team with both strategic and operational HR projects and processes. These include but are not limited to the performance review and pay review processes and the implementation of a new HR system.
  • Actively monitor and analyse attendance, and coach managers to manage this appropriately, including Aviva referrals. Flag cases of potential concern to the SHRBP.
  • Assist with project work for the Responsible Business Programme, which encompasses Equality, Diversity & Inclusion, Wellbeing, Community Engagement and Environmental Sustainability.
  • Carry out key processes in the employee life cycle such as inductions and exit interviews.
  • Hold maternity meetings and manage maternity checklists.
  • Assist with queries that are sent to our HR inbox.
  • Input data onto the firm's HR system (currently Open HR).
  • Manage the IT systems used to support key HR processes across the firm such as Compliance training (Vinci Works) and Health & Safety (WorkRite)
  • Produce ad-hoc data reports from our HR system as required.
  • Maintain an efficient, accurate electronic filing and archiving system in compliance with GDPR.
  • Revise the firm's intranet and website with any updates needed to our HR content.
  • Assist with the processing of benefits and automatic enrolment when needed.
  • Support business continuity for the firm as required using Everbridge.

What we are looking for from you

  • CIPD qualified (or have equivalent experience) with up-to-date working knowledge of current employment law and HR best practice.
  • Experience of operating within an HR team, ideally within the legal sector or in a Professional Services environment.
  • Experience of advising on core HR processes such as performance and absence management.
  • Team focused with a desire to work collaboratively to achieve shared goals and improve processes.
  • High degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Excellent planning, organisation and administration skills, able to prioritise and manage multiple and sometimes conflicting priorities.
  • Someone who takes ownership of issues; pro-active in terms of finding solutions to problems / queries.
  • Positive, results-focused and a flexible approach. Willing to get stuck in and support others on the team.
  • Able to build strong working relationships with the HR team and wider firm.
  • Strong communication skills with a professional and confidential approach to work.

In December 2020 we donated a total of £40,000 to our four regional office charities, with each charity receiving £10,000 towards the causes colleagues support throughout the year. The donations went towards providing vital services after a particularly challenging year. Our current selected charity in Bristol is Great Western Air Ambulance Charity.

  • UK Disability History Month: We supported the event with informative pieces and real life stories, reflecting our commitment to supporting those of our colleagues who have a disability or who care for someone with a disability.
  • Each lawyer has the opportunity to undertake pro bono legal work for local charities and not-for-profit organisations. This has seen colleagues support the Great Western Air Ambulance Charity (Bristol), St Werburgh's City Farm (Bristol) and Moseley Road Swimming Baths (Birmingham).
