Bevan Brittan is shortly to be joined by a leading practitioner (Band 1 in the directories) in public & regulatory law and we are looking for a public & regulatory specialist to work directly with them.

Our Litigation, Regulatory and Public Law team is a market leader in the health, social care and local government sectors and continues to grow its profile and client base in the financial services, commercial, and higher education sectors. The team sits within the Litigation, Advisory & Regulatory department which deals with substantial commercial, regulatory and public law disputes. The team primarily acts for corporates, regulators and other oversight and statutory bodies and wider public sector clients. We support them in improving the management of their organisation including performance of their contracts, corporate governance related disputes, effective decision making and bringing as well as defending litigation in both the county and high court and seeking to mitigate risks/costs.

In joining our growing team, you will have the opportunity to work for a number of the firms key strategic clients, working with a range of partner leads and colleagues whilst managing your own caseload. Given the nature of our clients the cases on which we work regularly touch on live socio-economic or political issues whether that be within local government, health, higher education or financial services often raising novel issues and can be highly rewarding to work on as a result. We have strong and trusted partnerships with the clients we work with who genuinely value our support and tell us so. The work will be intellectually challenging whilst calling for a pragmatic, client friendly approach that understands the public interest context in which we work. No two days will be the same, as the work covers an exceptionally broad and interesting range.

Rise to the Challenge

We are recruiting a Senior Associate or Associate (depending on experience) to join our busy and diverse litigation, advisory and regulatory team working for a range of public sector and private sector clients spanning higher education, central and local government and health. This is a unique opportunity as this person will work directly for a leading practitioner in the field who is shortly to join us.

The successful candidate will be involved in providing sound, litigation advice on the following areas:

  • Public law decision making and disputes (including complaints and judicial review challenges)
  • Advising on and defending claims under the Equalities Act
  • Advising on investigation, Inquiries and regulatory law
  • Procedural steps of litigation in the County and High Court in those areas through to trial
  • ADR including mediations and local dispute resolution
  • Instructing and working with experts and counsel

Experience of acting for, or in relation to public bodies will be essential, in particular in central or local government, NDPBs, quasi-public bodies or the third sector. The successful candidate will work with partners on business development, so experience of and an interest in supporting business development activities and initiatives would be beneficial.
