The team

We are looking for a Senior Associate to join our vibrant and growing team in the Commercial and Infrastructure Department to focus on commercial work in the Health Sector.

You will be joining a highly respected team who are at the forefront of healthcare commercial work nationally, across both the NHS and the fast-growing independent health sector.

We advise on wide range of commercial and strategic matters, navigate legislative and regulatory frameworks and advise on a range of commercial transactions including: joint ventures, collaborations and partnerships; new models of care provision in the NHS; outsourcing, insourcing and shared services; health and local government integration, as well as a wide variety of business to business and business to consumer contracts in the independent health and social care markets.

The wider team also advise on a range of projects including: delivery of new hospitals, health and social care facilities; housing; patient hotels; NHS estate redevelopment for income generating opportunities; digital health, life science and pharmaceutical services, including medical devices and clinical trial agreements.

The team works closely with colleagues across the firm, including those in our corporate, procurement, property, employment and banking and corporate finance teams.

The role

As a senior team member, you will work closely with the partners to deliver client work alongside supervising junior lawyers. You will also be encouraged to actively participate in team strategic planning and business development. Key activities include:

  • Work with the team to deliver of a range of complex projects and commercial transactions to both public and private sector clients.
  • Advise on a range of contractual or corporate/partnering arrangements between: (a) the public/private sector; (b) the public/public sector; (c) private business to business; and (d) private business to consumer.
  • Advise on shared services, new models of alternative delivery vehicles (including companies and limited liability partnerships) devolution and cross sector collaboration between public bodies.
  • Advise on challenging governance issues from statutory powers to Board decision-making and constitutional matters;
  • Advise on specialist health areas including the regulatory frameworks for pharmaceuticals and medical devices.
  • Be a valued member of the team, supported, trained and developed by senior members of the team in a supportive environment.
  • Have the opportunity to engage regularly with clients, attend client meetings and work closely with other legal, financial and technical advisors.

What we are looking for from you

You will have:

  • Experience of advising the NHS, private health and / or social care clients
  • A passion to learn, enthusiasm and the desire to excel as a lawyer
  • The ability to deliver clear, precise advice
  • Experience of or an interest in supervising junior lawyers
  • Strong technical skills and an ability to understand and work through complex issues
  • A demonstrable ability to adopt a practical and commercial approach to legal issues
  • Ability to liaise effectively with clients and build relationships, with an interest in business development
  • Ability to operate with a high level of self-sufficiency combined with an awareness of own abilities
  • A positive and flexible approach
