Description

We looking for an Associate Lawyer to join our Tier 1 (Nationwide) Chambers ranked Procurement team. When you join our highly regarded team of legal procurement specialists, you will work on a variety of government procurement matters including major development and regeneration schemes.

Department

Our Procurement team is one of the largest dedicated procurement teams across the country, consisting of 8 partners and 20 lawyers working across a range of departments including Projects, Disputes, Construction and Real Estate.

Our procurement lawyers work with central government, local authorities, other public sector bodies, utilities and bidders on the most high profile, complex and innovative procurement processes. Our team is focused on achieving successful and legally compliant awards, while ensuring that all those involved in the process understand the risks, practical methods of risk mitigation and, where necessary, how to handle procurement disputes.

You would join our Projects department with a focus on applied procurement law, but regularly work collaboratively with colleagues across the firm as part of a multidisciplinary team. You will be working closely with John Houlden (Partner), who has built a national reputation as a leading adviser on procurement, subsidy control, public law and regulatory matters.

The team is set to expand over the next couple of years, so this is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious lawyer.

Work

Notable projects include :

  • Advising the Department of Health and Social Care on the design and implementation of tender processes for a c.£900m multi-supplier framework agreement and then a £multi-billion dynamic purchasing framework for the supply of rapid-testing lateral flow devices, as well as advising on the procurement of end-to-end laboratory services for the assessment of COVID-19 Serology samples
  • Assisting the Ministry of Defence on various projects including the procurement of the Dreadnought class submarines, Skynet military satellite and a £multibillion instruction to manage the procurement of facilities management contracts for the Defence Estate as part of its Future Defence Infrastructure Services programme.
  • Supporting the Greater London Authority and Transport for London on a series of major regeneration projects in London, including the procurement of a development partner for the £2billion Royal Albert Dock regeneration project and the £1 billion+ Albert Island regeneration project (which includes the provision of a new shipyard for the Thames).
  • Advising Translink on the procurement of a development partner for an ambitious 1.3m sq ft mixed use redevelopment scheme at Weavers Cross in Belfast, which will include the city's new flagship transport hub (the biggest transport development ever undertaken in Northern Ireland).
  • Advising the UK Atomic Energy Authority the development of its procurement strategy across a range of programmes supporting nuclear fusion development, including the development hosting a demonstration scale nuclear fusion reactor at the Culham campus.
  • Other clients include: Ministry of Justice; DEFRA; BEIS; Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office; Bristol City Council; Birmingham City Council; Affinity Water and Eurostar.

Requirements

We are committed to finding the right person for this role and are open to discussing flexible working patterns.

  • Strong academics, coupled with evidence of having gained recent, relevant work experience focused on regulated procurement (experience relating to the procurement of development projects if particularly desirable but not essential). .
  • A strong team player.
  • Excellent interpersonal, client and commercial skills.
  • Adaptable and able to deal with complex work and find practical solutions.
  • SRA registered lawyer.
