Working within the Financial Services Team

We're looking for an experienced insurance lawyer to join our growing financial services and insurance team, with a mix of contentious and non-contentious insurance work. You will act for insureds and insurers on contentious claims and give non-contentious advice across a variety of insurance lines. The team provides ongoing regulatory and insurance legal support to clients across the financial services sector, with a strong focus on Insurtechs, alongside more traditional insurance work. Our clients are generally based in London, but also across the UK and internationally. We have offices in Cardiff and London. We work flexibly and team members work from home and/or from either of our offices.

You will be an experienced insurance lawyer and a key member of the team with oversight of the team's contentious and non-contentious insurance work and responsibility for building our existing client base of insurance clients.

You'll need:

  • extensive experience of working within the insurance market (whether in-house or for an insurance law firm)
  • contacts within the industry that will assist you to help grow the team
  • an interest and ability in generating work
  • policy drafting experience
  • a strong understanding of UK and EU insurance (and regulatory insurance law an advantage)
  • good knowledge of insurance contract law
  • strong litigation experience
  • excellent written and oral communication skills, clear written presentation, strong organisational skills, good time management, good initiative and problem-solving ability
  • team-focused with a flexible and collaborative approach to working with others, but also able to work alone
  • technically competent and commercially aware
  • a strong client focused approach with plenty of drive and enthusiasm to help us to provide an excellent client service
  • to travel regularly to London and Cardiff to visit clients and colleagues

You will be able to:

  • play a key role in building and maintaining client relationships
  • supervise junior lawyers
  • work effectively under pressure to tackle tough decisions and present innovative ways to help clients
  • adhere to internal procedures and systems of Capital including file / case management, time recording, WIP management
  • keep up to date with law and practice as part of continuing professional development (CPD)
  • maintain high standards of professional conduct while generating required practice income
  • ensure that the fees earned sufficiently exceed total costs and expenses incurred
