Working within the Financial Services Team

We're looking for an experienced non-contentious regulatory lawyer to join our growing financial services and insurance team. The team provides ongoing regulatory legal support to clients across the financial services sector, with a strong focus on InsurTech, alongside FinTech, Open Finance/Open Banking/Payment Services, Insurance, Pensions, Insurance, Wealth Management, Consumer Credit and Hire, Mortgages, Loans, Claims Management, Cryptoassets and Blockchain.

Our clients are generally based in London, but also across the UK and internationally. We have offices in Cardiff and London. We work for traditional financial services firms, but we are particularly known for our work with FinTech and InsurTech clients who are "disruptors" in the industry with whom we work closely as "outsourced general counsel".

We work flexibly and team members work from home and/or from either of our offices.

You will be an experienced regulatory lawyer and key member of the team.

You'll need:

  • extensive experience of working within the financial services sector (either traditional or "tech" focused firms)
  • contacts within the industry that will assist you to help grow the team are an advantage
  • an interest and ability in generating work
  • a strong understanding of UK and EU financial services regulations (insurance knowledge an advantage)
  • excellent written and oral communication skills, clear written presentation, strong organisational skills, good time management, good initiative and problem-solving ability
  • team-focused with a flexible and collaborative approach to working with others, but also able to work alone
  • technically competent and commercially aware
  • a strong client focused approach with plenty of drive and enthusiasm to help us to provide an excellent client service
  • to travel regularly to London and Cardiff to visit clients and colleagues

You will be able to:

  • play a key role in building and maintaining client relationships
  • supervise junior lawyers
  • work effectively under pressure to tackle tough decisions and present innovative ways to help clients
  • adhere to internal procedures and systems of Capital including file / case management, time recording, WIP management
  • keep up to date with law and practice as part of continuing professional development (CPD)
  • maintain high standards of professional conduct while generating required practice income
  • ensure that the fees earned sufficiently exceed total costs and expenses incurred
