The Role

Capsticks HR Advisory Service is an innovative service which has been developed by the firm to deliver outsourced HR advice and support to NHS organisations on a range of complex and day-to-day ER and HR issues. We work alongside the client's internal HR team to provide specialist advice in accordance with their local policies and procedures.

The HR Advisory Service provides an Employee Relations service an NHS client in the North East whereby the HR Advisor will be predominately home based but may be required to attend the clients various sites throughout the North East on request.

The HR Advisor acts as the first point of contact for the clients' managers and are responsible for the provision of a dedicated Employee Relations HR advisory service that compliments the clients' other HR initiatives. The HR Advisor will also give support and guidance at employee relations meetings and hearings, either to support the manager to undertake this meeting themselves or accompany a manager throughout formal meetings. The HR Advisor will undertake ER investigations on behalf of the client. Responsibilities include providing generalist operational HR advice and support, including all related administration, on a wide range of HR issues including current employment law, performance and absence management, health and safety, disciplinary and grievance issues etc, up to the issuing of ET proceedings. The post holder will also participate in the delivery of training and development seminars to the clients and participate in the co-ordination and implementation of new policies and procedures.

The HR Advisor will work within a dedicated specialist team providing services to this client and potentially other clients in the North of England reporting to an HR Advisory Manager; although the team will also work closely with and have access to legal staff in the Employment Department where necessary. The role will hold an employee relations case load, allocated by the HR Advisory Manager, which they will managed autonomously, in line with the client KPI's. The role may also require UK travel. The candidate is expected to work within the Standard Operating Procedures of Capsticks.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • To provide general HR/ER advice, guidance and support to all managers of the client, relating to the interpretation of policies and procedures, terms and conditions and employment issues e.g. discipline, grievance, absence management, terms and conditions (this list is not exhaustive), based on the clients policies and procedures, best practice and the latest employment case law;
  • Provide support to managers at formal meetings (virtual and face to face when possible), and to support the manager, where necessary, at the clients' site locations, as well as independently conducting thorough and robust investigations on behalf of the client;
  • To manage a case load of varying employee relations cases, end to end, on behalf of the client;
  • To work to the clients agreed KPI's and timescales, providing a high quality and efficient service;
  • To assist the clients managers to produce high quality reports following investigations and statements of case for formal hearings as well as outcome letters following any formal meetings;
  • To complete all necessary case administration to a high standard, record information accurately, and keep case management information updated on the HR Advisory case management system;
  • To liaise and work with the clients HR staff to provide a seamless HR service, to meet with and provide up to date information and HR Metrics on ER cases as required by the client;
  • To assist and contribute to the review and production of policies and procedures for the client as required;
  • To assist and contribute to the production of guidance documents on ER matters as required;
  • To assist in the development and growth of HR Advisory as required; and
  • Undertake duties as required by the service. This list is not exhaustive.

Skills set

  • An excellent knowledge of a broad range of ER issues and the ability to advise on risk
  • Previous NHS experience or experience working within a unionised environment in the public sector (preferable);
  • Commercial understanding;
  • Hold a CIPD (or equivalent) qualification, or be working toward this qualification;
  • Good range of IT skills, including the use of Microsoft® Outlook™, Word™ and Excel™
