Capula are looking for an Industrial Placement Student to join our Operations team in London. We are looking for a student to start ideally in June 2022 for 1 year. This is a fantastic opportunity for a candidate to gain first hand experience in a leading global hedge fund, and to be mentored by experienced professionals. Successful candidates will have excellent team work skills, an interest in finance and a 'can-do' attitude.

Overall purpose of the job:

  • To gain experience working in a hedge fund supporting in the Operations department
  • To learn about the full trade life cycle of ETD, Equity, Fixed Income and OTC products
  • To learn fundamentals of trade bookings, valuations and reconciliations
  • To learn operational risk, the impact to Capula and the controls to mitigate

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Support daily trade flow, reconciliations, paper confirmations, margin and brokerage controls
  • Liaise with Trading, IT, Legal, and Brokers daily.
  • Assist with the implementation of strategic IT developments
  • Review processes and systems, and document requirements for strategic technology initiatives
  • Build metrics for analysis to identify trends and feed decision making with IT resource and Broker relationships

Note that in addition to these duties employees are required to carry out such other duties as may be reasonably required.

Education and Qualifications:

Students who are undertaking an Industrial Placement for the 2020-2021 academic year as part of their university degree

Experience:

  • Students working towards an undergraduate degree in a technical or quantitative discipline (Engineering/Mathematics/Physics/Computer Science/Economics) with a strong interest in financial markets
  • A consistently strong academic record-2:1 or above

Skills

  • Excellent quantitative and analytical skills accompanied by critical thinking and intellectual curiosity
  • Microsoft Excel skills
  • Highly organised and able to adhere to procedures and time-frames
  • An understanding of financial markets, including debt, equity, and financing products
  • An interest in the end to end trade life cycle, and the technology systems and processes that support it
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills
  • An interest in working in a highly dynamic environment
  • Coding skills are beneficial but not essential (VBA, SQL, Python)
