The Role

Our Specialty & Investigations practice in New York City seeks a highly motivated Litigation Attorney with 4 to 6 years of experience in insurance coverage. The position involves representation of international and domestic insurers during claim investigations and litigations concerning policy defenses of first party insurance coverage matters including fine art, jewelry, precious metals and gems, high value cargo, property, renewable energy and other specialty coverages.

We are looking for a smart litigator with an inquisitive mind who is proactive and engaged in their caseload and comfortable taking on responsibility - someone who will be able to act independently throughout the litigation process, with an interest in developing an expertise in insurance coverage work in a unique area. The opportunity in this interesting and unique practice is suited to someone who thrives within a busy, stimulating and fast-paced team environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Taking depositions, attending court hearings and mediations as required;
  • Drafting motions, pleadings, briefs, discovery requests and interrogatories, and other legal correspondence and litigation documents;
  • Work on all aspects of litigation.
  • Analyze insurance policies, draft coverage opinions and provide coverage advice and recommendations to clients;
  • Conduct insurance examinations under oath;
  • Conduct complex and rigorous legal research and analysis, and draft memoranda;
  • Work with investigators and experts;
  • Provide critical assistance to partners;
  • Supervise the work of junior associates and paralegals and contribute to their professional development; and
  • Actively contribute to the development and maintenance of client relationships.

Education & Experience

  • Admitted to practice in New York (additional states a plus);
  • First-party insurance coverage experience (for example: marine, fine art and specie, property, specialty, contingency, special events, cyber etc.) strongly preferred;
  • Commercial litigation experience including the taking of depositions, conduct of oral arguments and discovery;
  • Federal court experience;
  • Strong writing skills;
  • Developed organizational and time management skills; and
  • Relevant hands-on work history.

The salary range for this position is $165,000 - $200,000. The range for this role takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled. It is not typical for an individual to be hired near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.
