The Team

We have a market leading tax team which advises on:

  • The tax aspects on some of the most complex and high-profile corporate and real estate transactions
  • Asset finance, including the sale and purchase aircraft and ships
  • Cross border tax issues and financing transactions
  • International Trade, customs duties and import VAT
  • All aspects of employment taxation and incentives
  • Tax disputes, investigations and appeals, including in relation to multinationals, OMB and HNWI.

We also frequently advise the largest insurance underwriters, brokers and agents on a wide range of issues concerns their businesses.

The four most senior members of the team all have considerable personal standing as tax experts, (having previously been noted and/or commended in Chambers or Legal 500 and one of whom is also a part-time Tax Tribunal judge.

Our tax specialists work closely with our clients' own corporate, commercial, in-house tax and finance teams to minimise tax costs and maximise tax reliefs.

As the market's leading law firm in the insurance sector, our tax team has a deep understanding of the insurance market, transactions, products and major tax concerns. Our insurance related tax work includes advising on VAT and IPT, cross border tax issues, setting up new UK insurance businesses, M&A transactions, tax W&I insurance, and acting for insurers and insureds in professional indemnity cases.

The Role

  • To support the three tax partners with their wide range of work described above.
  • To work closely with the existing tax associates and to help supervise tax team trainees.
  • As a junior associate/Associate you would be expected to work with all three partners and initially would not "specialise" in any particular field of taxation.
  • "Bread and butter" work would generally be mid-market M&A, real estate transactions, VAT, and employment taxation.
  • Assist with internal and external profile raising/marketing, including delivering internal training talks to different departments within the firm and helping to write tax bulletins/updates
  • Assist and partake in regular tax-know-how training sessions including helping to prepare and deliver our monthly Tax Case Update sessions, and the regular Finance Bill update sessions
  • Assist the tax, corporate and real estate partners with pitches to new clients or few new mandates
  • Attend marketing/business development events

Essential Skills & Experience

We are looking for a junior tax lawyer (ideally 1 to 4 years PQE) to add to our team who would be attracted by:

Ideally candidates will have corporate tax experience in private practice (legal or accounting firms), but we will also consider applicants who have worked in-house for organisations like HMRC.
