Costs Lawyer - Costs - Manchester or Southampton office
We are looking for an experienced Costs Lawyer be based in our
Manchester or Southampton office.
The Role
We are looking for experienced Costs Lawyers to join our Manchester
or Southampton team working on a broad range of matters including
paying and receiving party costs, budgeting and we also offer the
opportunity to undertake advocacy with sufficient training.
The work is predominantly complex multi-track casualty / healthcare
but also encompasses other areas of litigation undertaken by the firm.
Due to growing work volumes, there will be opportunity to undertake a
variety of work but with the potential to focus on particular lines
according to experience and needs.
The Team
Clyde & Co's Costs team is headed by Partner, Paul Wainwright and
advises clients on a wide and diverse caseload and the team handles
some of the most complex and largest cost cases in the UK and
globally. The bulk of the costs work arises in the context of the
defence of claims and litigation on behalf of insurers and their
policyholders in relation to personal injury claims (of all types) but
the team also services specialist work arising from commercial,
property, marine, international arbitration, aviation and professional
indemnity claims and litigation.
Key Responsibilities
Assessing and negotiating settlement of
multi-track costs, including handling related costs proceedings.
Drafting own party and opposing third
party cost budgets.
Pursuing costs recoveries including bill drafting.
Skills and Requirements
4+ years' experience as a Costs Lawyer either inhouse or within a
Solicitors firm.
Experience running own multi-track costs
cases on behalf of the paying party.
Experience of costs budgeting.
Some advocacy experience would be
welcomed but is not essential.
Bill drafting skills would be welcomed
but are not essential.
Additional fee knowledge would be beneficial; however training
will be given.
Excellent verbal and written
communication skills.
Proven ability to work to tight
deadlines and to prioritise accordingly.
Excellent organisational skills and the
ability to manage time effectively.
Ability to work as a member of a Team.
Good IT skills.
Confident and positive approach when
communicating with staff of all levels.
