Established in 1992, the Paris office is Clyde & Co's oldest
office in Continental Europe. Our lawyers offer French and

dispute resolution, D&O and professional liability, IT, data

The Department
The global leadership team sets the strategy in consultation with the
Global Strategy Board. The Business Development & Marketing team
(comprising Communications, Marketing, Business and Client Development
experts) are led by regional heads of business development who are
aligned to our regional boards: Europe, Asia Pacific, Middle East
Africa, North America, UK. Our strategy seeks to manage and develop
clients and profile in our global sectors; adopts a content and
product led approach in taking our practice groups to market;
prioritises the use the integrated digital marketing channels; and
positions our most senior staff as advisors to the business, supported
by expert execution teams. Our principles dictate that the highest
value clients and opportunities command the highest value BD attention
and bespoke tactics.
The Role
We are seeking a full-time Business Development & Marketing
Manager to join our Continental European Business Development,
Marketing and Communications (BDMC) function. Based in Paris, the role
will be focused on driving the business development efforts for the
firm's French practices and lawyers. The successful candidate will be
a team player with strong organizational and writing skills and a
sharp attention to detail. They should be able to communicate
accurately and professionally with both internal and external clients
and vendors and to work independently and complete tasks efficiently
with minimal oversight.
Key Responsibilities
Leading and shaping the strategy for [select] French practice
groups and key clients, working collaboratively with fee earners,
the European Business Development team, and the broader global team
of Client Development teams and BD Managers, and senior firm
management as appropriate, understanding regional and local market
needs and dynamics
Implementing, tracking, analysing and evaluating activity
associated with business development initiatives across select
French practice groups and key clients and recommending strategies
to increase the initiatives' overall effectiveness
Conducting client, prospect, industry, competitor and market
research/analysis to inform targeted business development efforts
Assisting with pitch and RFP efforts, including developing
customized content, and working with the central Pitch & Pursuit
team and other BD colleagues, where appropriate; follow up for pitch
de-briefs and track wins / losses
Plan, organize, and deliver high-quality client events (seminars,
conferences, sponsorships, webinars) to position the firm as a
market leader, in particular in Arbitration and the Aviation and
Insurance sectors, targeting carefully selected existing key clients
and new clients, with a strong focus on ROI tracking, profitable
revenue generation, and increasing brand profile
Creating and managing marketing materials, assisting with the
production of podcasts, and roll-out of branding communications and
advertising, and manage submissions for awards and directories
Driving strategic initiatives that promote greater collaboration
across Europe and increase revenue
Creating and maintaining content on the firm's website and as well
as using the firm's digital content design platform to create new
and edit existing interactive content templates to improve digital
client experience
Liaising with the global Communications team and French agency to
drive both internal and external communications for practice
development in France, and social media to channel the Clyde &
Co brand
Provide mentoring and coaching to the junior member of the team
Maintaining the operational standards of the Marketing &
Business Development team to ensure: - our branding approach is
implemented effectively - marketing materials effectively
represent the positioning of each practice area/group - our
approach to pitches is informed by sector knowledge - the
management of events is efficient and cost-effective
It will be expected that the Marketing & Business Development
Manager: - Effectively supports and communicates the key aims
of the firm's business development agenda, assisting partners,
lawyers and team members in maintaining an awareness of these aims
and guiding their implementation - Maintains an overview of the
developments taking place in the firm and their market and
communicates those developments to partners, lawyers and other team members
Exemplifies the attributes that we wish to communicate to the market
Essential Skills & Experience
Prior law firm experience preferred
At least 7 years of relevant experience, including 5+ years within
a professional services environment
Exceptional attention to detail
Excellent verbal and written communication skills in French and English
Interest or background in disputes / litigation, arbitration, and
corporate business issues
Experience with CRM systems and a high level of proficiency with
MS Office software, particularly PowerPoint and Excel
Ability to interact independently and professionally with senior
partners and business professionals
High organizational skills and the ability to effectively manage
competing priorities
Self-motivated and able to work independently with little or no supervision
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work at all levels
with confidence, a positive attitude and the ability to gain
credibility quickly
Ability to follow complex instructions and comfortable working
across multiple cultures and time zones in a matrix organisation
