Clyde & Co are presently in search of an Associate with at least 1 year post-qualification experience to provide support to our Cape Town Marine and Insurance Team. This position offers an excellent chance to become part of a team comprising of industry experts. You will represent a diverse portfolio of regional and international clients, while also benefiting from unparalleled access to our offices in other jurisdictions. Key Responsibilities

Assisting the Partner and other team members on a range of complex and large-scale matters, including but not limited to:

  • International trade, commodities, shipping, transportation, commercial agreements, court proceedings, domestic and international arbitration, marine insurance, and commercial disputes
  • Conducting legal research and analysis related to a broad-spectrum of legal issues and matters.
  • Strong research, writing, and analytical skills;
  • Ability to handle matters of a highly sensitive nature;
  • Ability to manage and prioritise multiple projects;
  • Ability to handle time sensitive matters;
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills;
  • Ability to identify and resolve problems quickly.

Candidate profile

  • Suitable candidates will have strong academic results.
  • Candidates will have minimum 1 years' post-qualification experience.
  • Ability to juggle a range of tasks and prioritise effectively.
  • Clear commercial understanding and outcome focus with a desire to deliver the highest quality service and advice to leading international clients.
  • Strong drafting skills and excellent attention to detail.
  • Proven ability to work as part of a team with varying levels of responsibility and supervision depending upon the matter.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and networking ability.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with marine and/or insurance background and qualifications.

Qualifications

  • Admitted to practice in South Africa
  • 1+ years of disputes experience
  • Excellent academic credentials
  • Credible work history
  • Proficient to advanced user of Microsoft Word and Outlook
  • Proficient to advanced user of PDF programs such as Adobe, Nuance/Kofax, etc.
  • Applicant must be detailed oriented and highly motivated with the ability to multi-task and work independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Impressive command of grammar and punctuation
  • Must have experience with FileSite, iManage, or equivalent document management system.
