We are looking for an Junior
Associate/Associates (NQ - 2 years PQE) to join our team of lawyers
who specialise in acting on behalf of the secure estate and sit as
part of (SHE) Regulatory Departmentin the Manchester office.
This is an excellent opportunity to join
an expanding team within our multi-award-winning firm. The role is
based in the Manchester office and requires regular communication
with clients nationally. We have a collaborative, supportive team
working in a modern, flexible environment.
We will consider individuals who have previous litigation experience
together with a very good level of EL/PL knowledge. Public law
experience will most definitely be benefit to any candidate but is not
essential. The teams work includes prison regulatory, mostly handling
inquests arising from deaths in custody but candidates without this
experience will be considered who wish to pursue a career in
Regulatory inquests - as full training will be provided. Candidate
will be responsible for supporting senior team members with their case
load with minimal supervision as well as having their own cases.

guide and all suitable candidates will be considered.
The Team
This is a great opportunity to work for a top 20 International law
firm with one of the UK's largest SHE departments, recognised in
Chambers & Partners and the Legal 500 for its Prison Inquests work.
As part of our close-knit team you would have the opportunity to
become a specialist in this fascinating area of law, working on cases
arising out of the secure estate on behalf of companies operating in
the private prison estate. It is work which is uniquely varied and
sometime high-profile. It is challenging and rewarding in equal measures.
Our lawyers provide national coverage for companies operating in the
secure estate and work hand in hand with their insurers. You will be
joining 'the Prison team' which is the limb of the HSE SHE/Reg team
based in Manchester - consisting of 6 fee earners (1 Partner, 1 Legal
Director, 1 Senior Associate, 2 Associates and 1 Paralegal).
You will be involved in preparing and progressing cases from their
early investigative stages, through to conclusion before the Civil
Court or Coroners Court. Typical cases include Article 2 inquests,
H uman Rights/Equality/Protected
Rights claims, C ivil Litigation cases examples such as where
prisoners pursue unlawful force, unlawful detention, misfeasance in
public office etc. The work in the team is highly specialised and you
will become proficient in actions arising out of the secure estate and
representation before the Coroners Court.
Essential Skills & Experience
You should ideally have 1-3-years PQE with some previous
experience of either public law or EL/PL litigation, inquests
however, candidates without this experience who wish to pursue a
career in this field could be re-trained if they can establish good
level of basic knowledge.
You will be bright/ambitious with strong academics.
You will come from a strong trainee background.
You will be a highly determined individual able to adapt well
within a demanding, fast-paced team.
You will be willing and available to travel to anywhere in England
and Wales to support clients and sometimes have to stay away from
home for cases.
You will enjoy being challenged by
complex legal issues and expanding your knowledge.
You will be a confident and effective communicator.
You will have s ound research and
analytical skills.
You will be able to display forensic attention to detail.
You will be focussed on delivering a
highly professional service to clients, including compliance with
client SLAs and MI requirements.
