Our Sydney office currently has an exciting opportunity available for
intelligent and highly motivated paralegal to join our leading
Energy, Marine and Natural Resources team.
From assisting with the day-today operations of files and the
practice, research, drafting, project specific tasks right through to
business development initiatives and the opportunity to work on the
latest client solutions, the role is exciting and varied, giving you
exposure across many areas of EMNR law.
You will have the opportunity to work on projects both in Australia
and those that have international aspects, given our close working
relationships with our global network of over 50 offices.
This opportunity will suit a student who is studying law or who have
completed their law degree and are in between starting as a graduate.
Key responsibilities
Analysing and classifying large volumes of material (digital and
hard copy) and producing accurate and detailed summary descriptions
with the use of document review tools
Attending to digital filing, maintaining accurate database records
Carry out case-handling work delegated by Partners and Associates
Working on client and matter queries
Attending to court filing
Attend to research tasks and preparing notes on findings
Assist with the creation & maintenance of
bundles/bibles/pleadings or arbitration files, client documents etc.
Current awareness - review and circulate relevant articles and
case updates
Assist with maintenance of precedent database and verify
information found on firm precedent system
Help maintain library of resources and know-how to ensure that
knowledge is captured for future reference
Develop and maintain collection of guidelines to local procedures
and practices
Assist in the preparation and development of articles for local
and international publications and presentations
Assist in developing marketing materials from existing precedents
and articles
Daily reporting and administration
Attending to all other work-related Partner and fee earner requests.
Administrative responsibilities
Typing: including digital dictation, emails, letters, documents
and amendments
Answering and filtering telephone calls: liaising with external
and internal clients and their secretaries, dealing with queries and
relaying messages
Printing, photocopying and collation of documents and materials
Maintaining paper and electronic filing systems
Providing assistance to business services team members and their
Partners/fee earners when they are busy or away on leave
Skills and experience
Strong academic credentials (minimum distinction average for law),
switched on, self-driven, with excellent verbal and written
communications skills.
Strong attention to detail, time management skills and ability to
manage competing priorities effectively.
Excellent ability to follow processes to ensure desired outcome is achieved.
A passion or interest in building a career in the Marine practice.
Demonstrated teamwork and collaboration skills, as well as the
ability to work independently.
Proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite
