The Role

As a Finance Intern, you'll have the opportunity to work part-time with staff accountants and trust accountants as part of the finance accounting team to get a wider exposure of the staff accountant role in a law firm environment. The Finance Intern role will have the opportunity to assist with daily and regular interval accounting activities including banking, general ledger and bank account reconciliation, and financial statements.

Key Responsibilities

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Responsible for Daily Inter-bank transfer postings, Daily bank payment postings (HSA, FSA, Services charges), and Bank Reconciliations
  • Post journal entries and update schedule for Prepaids and Accruals. Complete intercompany reconciliation.
  • Review general ledgers for accuracy and update workpapers accordingly
  • Participate in the month end closing process, and help the team with any duties required
  • Assist with and support special projects such as new software rollouts and improvements
  • Review balances and complete Amex Control GL Reconciliation
  • Void out of date checks
  • Assist with administrative tasks such as filing documents
  • Complete other tasks as required to aid the accounting and finance team in providing a high level of service to the firm and its clients.

Essential Skills & Experience

Education:

  • College or university student working towards a degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field.

Skills and Ability:

  • Highly analytical, with a strong proficiency in math
  • Service-orientated and self-motivated individual who has a desire to grow a career in accounting or finance
  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft office products
  • Persistent and committed to completing tasks thoroughly and accurately
  • Demonstrate high level of professionalism, diplomacy, trust and integrity
  • Exhibit strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

The hourly compensation range for this position is $20 - $22 per hour. The range for this role takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled. It is not typical for an individual to be hired near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.
