Clyde & Co's Sydney office is currently recruiting for a Lawyer/Associate, with at least 2 years' litigation experience, to join our busy technology practice.

This is a newly created role for a motivated Associate with experience in insurance / commercial disputes and a passion to build a career in cyber and technology litigation.

Clyde & Co has Australia's leading Digital Law, Privacy and Cyber Incident Response team. That team focuses on the full life cycle of data/tech/privacy issues for global and local clients, both ASX listed, mid market and SME.

The team is experiencing huge growth in litigation arising from technology contractual disputes, cyber incidents, privacy incidents and cutting edge issues from fintech clients.

We are looking for the right candidate to help the team take the existing practice to the next level. This highly collaborative team is looking for a great cultural fit to help provide an end to end solution to clients for all their digital privacy and security needs.

The right person will be driven, motivated to grow with the practice and demonstrate good client skills. The team's work comes from corporates, insurers and professional bodies. The role will offer a fantastic opportunity to work on market-leading matters and to build on strong client relationships already in place.

A passion and strong focus on litigation and dispute resolution is key. Future growth opportunities include class actions arising from privacy and security breaches as well as complex, cross jurisdictional litigation with a strong tech focus.

  • technology contract breaches;
  • cyber breaches;
  • privacy complainants and disputes;
  • consumer law breaches;
  • negligence claims;
  • insurance claims (specifically cyber and financial lines); and
  • other related digital law, technology, media and fintech disputes.

The team also advises domestic and international insurers on coverage in claims under technology errors and omissions and cyber liability insurance policies. These are often high-value, high-profile and complex. The team has been involved in most of the high-profile incidents in recent history. A passion for toothy, complex coverage issues will be highly regarded.

Key skills and experience

We're looking for an ambitious lawyer who enjoys working as part of dynamic and collaborative team.

  • Strong academic credentials.
  • Demonstrated teamwork and collaboration skills, as well as the ability to work independently.
  • Self-driven with excellent time management skills and the ability to manage competing priorities effectively.
  • Excellent analytical, research and verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent drafting skills with strong attention to detail (including with preparation of evidence, court documents and advices to client).
  • Strong technical ability wih assisting with managing medium to large scale litigation.
  • Strong ability to pick up on new concepts and matters.
  • Strong understanding of civil procedure rules (particularly in the Federal and NSW jurisdictions) and familiarity with rules of evidence.
  • Demonstrated teamwork and collaboration skills, as well as the ability to work independently.
  • Commercial awareness and confidence in building a rapport with clients to gain a better understanding of their business' needs and assisting with actively developing these client relationships.
