The role is to provide risk and compliance support to the business in
the Asia Pacific (APAC) region. The APAC region extends across
Australia (4 offices) Hong Kong, Singapore, China and Thailand.
The role will involve being part of a regional risk team whose aim is
to ensure that the firm develops and maintains the very highest
standards in relationships between the professional legal adviser and
client, identifies and manages risk and complies with regulatory
requirements. The role may include some supervisory responsibility for
junior members of the team where relevant and require working closely
with other Risk colleagues regionally and globally. The role reports
to the Sydney based Head of Legal & Regulatory Risk (APAC).
The Team
The Risk and Compliance team provide support to the firm's Senior
Management and to the wider business, to ensure that the firm develops
and maintains the very highest standards of professional conduct,
optimally manages risk and ensures compliance with legal and
regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Responding to queries from partners, functional managers and other
key stakeholders on a wide range of client-facing and internal
governance, legal, and risk matters in the APAC region.
Reviewing commercial contract terms with public and private sector
clients and legal services suppliers, including framework, referral
and escrow agreements, client engagement terms, NDAs and MOUs.
Working with the team to manage AML/CFT queries for the region and
assisting with preparation for regulatory supervision, regulatory
filing obligations, suspicious activity reporting and liaison with
authorities, Financial Intelligence Units and legal services regulators.
Supporting cross-functional business projects for the risk function.
Working closely with Conflicts Lawyers to assist with conflicts clearance.
Supporting the development of and embedding of risk policies,
procedures and guidance to deliver a practical, robust and
forward-looking approach.
Fostering relationships and engagement with functional
departments, such as BD, IT, HR and Finance, to promote the risk
function profile and services within the firm and encouraging
joined-up approaches to projects and problems.
Assisting with embedding a risk training and induction programme
across the region, aligned with the global training plan. Delivery
of training.
Taking an active role in the promotion and development of a
healthy risk management culture across the region, encouraging a
good ethical approach to be taken in all decision- making.
Assisting with the supervision and development of other members of
the team as required.
Essential Skills & Experience
Legally qualified with over 5 years' experience ideally part of
which was working in a leading commercial law firm.
Previous experience of risk and compliance.
Previous experience in data privacy and regulatory obligations
will be highly regarded.
Strong organisational skills.
