The Team
Our market-leading catastrophic injury
specialists are trusted around the world by general and specialist
insurers corporations, and health and public sector bodies to defend
their most serious and highest value cases.
We handle the whole range of complex and
high value claims including fatality, acquired brain injury, spinal
cord damage, amputation, chronic pain, the funding of long-term care
and rehabilitation.
The Role
The role would be assisting lead lawyers
and partners - no more than two - in every aspect of their cases.
With cases involving such serious injury the team adopt a very
forensic approach to liability and valuation aspects of the case. It
would be assisting with those, instructing counsel and medical
experts, taking statements, assessing evidence, reviewing medical
records, attending conferences with counsel and court etc. Every
case is different and all really interesting. We act for most
insurers and have team recognised for their technical excellence.
At the same time, we would focus on your
development and training generally so as to ensure you are
progressing against objectives. We have fabulous offices in Bristol
and Manchester. Our paralegals come in 2 days a week and work from
home the others. Being around the partners ensures great training
and experience.
Key Responsibilities
Your role will involve assisting the Fee Earner with all aspects of
the day to day management of claims, everything from assisting with
liability enquiries, obtaining and reviewing medical records and
reports, drafting witness statements, preparing instructions to
Experts and Counsel, preparing Counsel/Court bundles and any general
admin duties.
Essential Skills & Experience
Applicants must have excellent communication and organisational
skills, along with the ability to work well under pressure and to
strict deadlines. Knowledge of the litigation process would be useful
alongside some exposure to assisting on Catastrophic Injury work.
