The Team
Our market-leading catastrophic injury specialists are trusted around
the world by general and specialist insurers corporations, and health
and public sector bodies to defend their most serious and highest
value cases.
We handle the whole range of complex and high value claims including
fatality, acquired brain injury, spinal cord damage, amputation,
chronic pain, the funding of long-term care and rehabilitation.
The Role
Our Catastrophic Personal Injury team handles high value claims,
covering every aspect from policy coverage to litigation. The role
will include some time working with our specialist fraud team which
requires a variety of complex skill sets, such as investigative
interviewing, intelligence gathering, fraud measurement, data
analytics, and risk assessment. The role offers challenging,
interesting, and varied work; with ongoing training, including
opportunities for personal development and promotion. This is an
excellent opportunity to join an expanding team within our
multi-award-winning firm.
The role is based in our Southampton office and requires regular
communication with clients nationally. We have a collaborative,
supportive team working in a modern, flexible environment. Previous
experience in dealing with Personal Injury cases will be an advantage
but is not essential. This is an opportunity to take a lead in a
growing area where the law is developing, evolving and the work is challenging.
Key Responsibilities
Assisting partners on Catastrophic Injury and Large Loss cases.
Handling own caseload of lower value claims.
Taking statements from witnesses.
Investigating claims and utilising our fraud tools.
Drafting and proof-reading court pleadings.
Assisting in valuing personal injury claims.
Reviewing medical records and expert evidence.
Preparing court bundles.
Drafting letters of instruction, requests, Instructions to Counsel.
Preparing briefing notes, action plans, file notes and attendance notes.
Managing day to day deadlines with the ability to prioritise and
manage time effectively.
Requirement for strong organisational skills and be able to use a
case management system.
Ensure files and spreadsheets are maintained and updated.
Essential Skills & Experience
Previous paralegal experience is desirable but not essential.
An undergraduate law degree or equivalent is desirable but not essential.
Excellent attention to detail.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to plan and prioritise effectively.
Strong IT skills and proficient in Microsoft office.
