About the role

Due to recent internal growth, we have an opportunity at Associate level in the team led by Partner Ian Johnston. This new role will expose the successful applicant to first rate matters and clients.

Leading specialists in their field Ian and Senior Associate, Phutita Luksilakul foster a culture which is collegiate and positive, and you will be exposed to an excellent depth of mentoring together with career development opportunities.

This role primarily includes pursuing recovery and handling the defence of marine and cargo claims. Your role will also include handling commercial litigation.

You will have further exposure across the broader practice on a range of matters involving policy localisation work and compliance with regulations of The Office of Insurance Commission.

The team regularly interact with our UK and Singapore colleagues, and this is an un-rivalled opportunity for ambitious lawyers to gain expertise acting for local and overseas based international clients.

Key responsibilities

  • Based in Bangkok and qualified to practice in Thailand
  • Role heavily focused in Marine, Transport and Insurance matters with work largely centred around Thailand and international clients
  • Handling commercial litigation as related to Insurance.
  • Court attendance and involvement in trials if pre-trials unsuccessful
  • Policy localisation work and knowledge of regulations of The Office of Insurance Commission in Thailand
  • Researching and drafting of documentation, advice and correspondence
  • Prepare for and participate in business development related activities.

Candidate's profile and experience

  • 5 years' post qualification experience in Thailand acting for and advising clients
  • Suitable candidates will have strong academic results and be qualified to practice in Thailand
  • Ability to assist in the handling of both local proceedings, and complex multi-jurisdictional arbitration and litigation proceedings
  • Court attendance with strong general commercial litigation background is a requirement
  • Marine background in Thailand and experience working within a reputable or international law firm is preferred
  • Language proficiency with Thai fluency (is a requirement); English proficiency at business conversational level (highly regarded)
  • Precise, clear drafting skills to be able to work on pleadings and document preparation
  • Analytical and critical thinking skills commensurate with level
  • Eager to contribute meaningfully to a high-performing team and desire to advance in your legal career.
