Description
The mission of the Enterprise Architecture team is to craft
strategies, roadmaps, and technical standards that set the foundation
for the firm's global IT platform and associated technologies. The
Enterprise Architect enables this mission by ensuring architecture
meets business needs for practical, robust, scalable and
cost-effective technologies. This position uses technical and
non-technical skills to understand applications technology
requirements, design infrastructure and applications architectures to
modern standards, and craft strategies and roadmaps that enable other
teams to deliver appropriate solutions. This role requires an
excellent understanding of the business of law, the ability to engage
with legal, IT and information security staff to understand collective
requirements, and a solid foundation of architecture principles and
best practices.
Key Responsibilities
Architectural Design, Principles and Standards
Act as a design authority for assigned aspects of new IT
initiatives and craft high-quality architecture documents based on
business needs and architecture best practices.
Socialize architectural principles across the department and to
project stakeholders.
Capture, maintain and improve the overall IT Architecture for the firm.
Capture, manage and own artefacts and architectural roadmaps.
Ensure global compliance to required architecture standards
through suitable technology and business processes.
Work with IT staff world-wide to assist with practical guidance in
meeting local and regional technology needs.
Provide technical advice and recommendations to IT management and
senior leadership teams.
Assist IT management and work closely with technical SMEs in
creating / reviewing solution architectures, technical strategies,
and roadmaps to enhance and develop current and future IT services
and key technologies.
Architecture Technical Leadership and Business Collaboration
Co-host the Architecture Board meeting in conjunction with the
CTO, providing review of technical proposals and guidance on new IT
requests and their impact on existing technology; participate in and
run design authority meetings for the technical aspects of new IT initiatives.
Speak with key stakeholders to identify needs and facilitate
technical solutions that meet the firm's strategic objectives.
Identify and work with key technology (infrastructure,
applications, data, or legal technologies) owners to help mentor
them to meet a clear architectural vision for the firm.
Design initiatives to enable a more mature approach to managing
firm-wide technologies.
Advise project delivery teams and technical leads on measures to
deliver high-quality support services and identify the best products
for the Firm.
Present architectural principles and standards to both IT and
non-IT staff in a business-consumable manner and in a way which
enables both technical and non-technical persons to understand.
Architecture Project Support and General Responsibilities
Understand vendor offerings in the market and the role they could
play in improving IT services for the firm.
Provide input into technical requirements for both operational and
project-specific budgets.
Assist IT management in identifying the correct technical and
non-technical resources to be aligned for project activity.
Act in technical governance advisory capacity for global projects
and advise IT, Finance, projects and technical teams.
Participate in project governance activities and liaise with
managers, senior leadership, and technical leads to ensure solutions
and implementation are in alignment with enterprise architecture
strategies, roadmaps and technical standards.
Participate in designing project plans and task assignment for new initiatives.
Essential Skills & Experience
Proven experience in an architectural role with technical
leadership, ideally within a law firm or professional services firm
A diploma, degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Information
Technology or related field preferred.
Any of the following accreditations / certifications are highly
regarded: MCSE, ITIL, TOGAF, Prince2, Cisco, BCS Practitioner, Zachman
Technical Leadership
A key influencer across IT and the broader business; deep knowledge
of infrastructure and applications standards and global applications
design patterns; strong business acumen and ability to work with all
levels, both within and outside IT, to build technology roadmaps
aligned to the business' needs and vision; ability to conduct
conversations combining both business and technical topics in a manner
in which all involved understand the topics and outcomes.
Technical Skills
Extensive experience working with various technologies such as:
Identity and Access Management
Access controls (multisite)
SQL database systems
Data management tools (backup, archiving, monitoring)
MI/BI reporting toolsets, such as Tableau, PowerBI, etc.

Strong communication and inter-personal skills; strong listener;
capable of understanding business needs and translating them into
business consumable documents and architectural standards; able to
work in team settings; able to write and deliver concise, descriptive,
technically-sound and high-quality architecture documents with few
errors; able to translate complex data and architectural concepts and
principles into easily-understood information consumable by others;
ability to design and deliver architectural presentations to other
members of IT, senior leadership, and business partners, adjusted into
business consumable language.

frame and recommend solutions that are best for Clyde, even where that
may not be technically "best practice".
