Overview of the Role

The legal assistant, litigation, will provide direct support to an associate and articling student(s). The work will involve the production of legal documents in accordance with the Supreme Court Rules, assisting in the file management and organization, performing file opening procedures, scheduling of court attendances, examination for discovery and client meetings amongst other tasks that may be required.

Primary Responsibilities

This is a permanent full-time non-exempt position. Work schedule to be determined.

  • Prepare and produce a variety of legal documents with accuracy in the field of litigation;
  • Look after file opening, preparation and management;
  • Handle daily correspondence;
  • Assist with time entries and billing as required;
  • Perform online filings through BC Online;
  • Execute a variety of tasks under time constraints;
  • Proofread typed material for grammatical, typographical or spelling errors;
  • Maintain an efficient bring forward/follow-up system;
  • Carry out other general administrative tasks as required by the firm.

Qualifications Required

  • Legal Assistant Certification from an accredited institution or the equivalent;
  • Minimum of 1 to 3 years' experience as a legal assistant in the field of litigation;
  • Solid understanding of law office procedures and comfortable referencing the Supreme Court Rules;
  • Ability to produce legal documents with accuracy and minimal supervision;
  • Strong computer skills in the area of Microsoft Suite;
  • iManage, 3E a plus but not a necessity;
  • Rigor and attention to details;
  • Great organization and prioritization skills;
  • Handling and prioritizing workload while working under pressure of tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment;
  • Behaving in a professional manner with lawyers, clients and other team members at all levels;
  • Team-spirit, strong sense of collaboration and positive, "can-do" attitude.
