The Role
The Data Governance Analyst is a member of the Global Information
Technology organization, serving in a leadership role. This individual
will work across the department and other business functions to drive
the strategy, data governance implementation roadmap and capabilities.
They will act as a Data Custodian working closely with data owners and
stewards to control data management, ensuring technical processes
exist to rectify any data quality issues and agrees data usage within
the organization.
The incumbent designs, builds and supports the implementation of Data
Governance Framework, is responsible for on-going management of data
governance applications and assist in the establishment of key
operational data governance best practices, structures, policies, and
standards. In addition, the incumbent ensures quality controls and
processes are implemented and embedded within the organization to
protect the use of company's data, sensitive data, information assets
and interoperability between systems.
The Data Governance Analyst will build strong relationships with key
stakeholders across the company and support communications, including
associated plans relating to data governance policy and activities
e.g. formally through dashboards, metrics reporting and commentary in
reports and informally throughout the organisation. The successful
candidate will work with the existing Data Architects, Data Engineers,
Data Developers and Analysts to design and document policies and data solutions.
Key Responsibilities
Working to improve the governance of one
or more of the following areas: Data Quality, Metadata and Data
Lineage, Policy Design, Data Lifecycle Management, Data Retention
and Deletion, Reference, or Master Data Management
Embedding, evolving, and operating
components of the data governance framework e.g. data quality
monitoring and resolution, data catalogue and business glossary
development, record retention and deletion etc.
Assisting and driving the development of
the data governance controls, and their application across the
business
Implementing of data management best
practices and standards, designing, and creating data management
policies and processes
Working with the existing Data
Architects, Data Engineers, Data Developers and Analysts to design
and document policies and data solutions
Proactively promote and manage data
governance awareness through the business
Acting as a Data Governance SME,
providing support and advice to the business by facilitating
business processes associated with Data Governance
Leading in activities to ensure that the
Data Quality deliverables are consistent with policy, standards,
and processes
Assists in the creation of metrics to
measure data quality issues, support appropriate and adequate
reporting with key stakeholders by providing a view on all Data
Quality metrics for Governance
Prepares presentations and produces
reports to management or clients
Operating and administrating data
governance tool and uses techniques to visualize data in
easy-to-understand formats
Drives enhancements in data quality and
data governance by measuring, monitoring, and reporting data
quality metrics and data quality improvements
Identifies and anticipates the need for
changes to continuously improve quality and efficiency of outputs
Analyzes data quality issues to
determine what steps need to be put in place for successful resolution
Addresses the root cause of data
inconsistencies and recommends improvements
Records and collates data incidents and
associated action plans, in partnership with relevant stakeholders
Analyzes data sources and data sets for
overlaps, gaps or any areas that need attention and works with the
business owners and data stewards to ensure these are addresses
Creates inventories of existing data
sources and adds value by creating relationships between the data
sets in preparation for them to be loaded into the data catalogue
Coordinates and supports manual-aided
data cleaning, identifying bad data, managing, priorities and
steering execution of data cleaning on source systems
Applies judgment to deliver outcomes,
evaluating a range of potential solutions, considering the impact
and data risk
Drives and supports the development and
operation of the Data Risk Register and Incident Logs
Embodies Global IT Leadership Guiding Principles
Liaison between the Legal Delivery team and assigned business
areas ("clients") on specific change initiatives.
Comprises part of a larger leadership team that works
collaboratively to deliver results that support the firm's strategic
plan and its clients. As a team member of the larger leadership

Enterprise Data Governance, Data Quality and Interoperability Expertise
The Data Governance Analyst is an essential role to the
transformation of the enterprise data environment with a focus to
minimise data risks and making sure data is handled with care.
Team is responsible for designing, developing, deploying and
managing data management solutions, such as data governance
frameworks (MS Purview/Collibra), data quality controls and KPIs,
data Interoperability between systems using ETL and ELT data
transfer and modelling, SSIS, Data Factory, Azure Synapses, data
management tools, and MI/BI analysis technologies.
Essential Skills & Experience
Previous experience with Data
Management, Data Governance and Data Quality
Demonstrating knowledge of DAMA
Framework or equivalent Data Quality Management approaches
A deep understanding of the core capabilities and principles
within data management and experience with at least one of the
following: data strategy, data ownership, data regulation and
meta-data management
Experience designing or implementing
elements of a Data Governance framework or associated solutions
Familiarity with business process improvement techniques e.g. Six Sigma
Writing and/or enforcement of Policy, Principles, Standards or Controls
Knowledge of full data lifecycles form ingestion through to
archiving or destruction
Strong understanding of data within a business context, including
different data types, data flows, data relationships and
cross-system data
Has proven experience in interpretation of data models and data
modelling, conceptual, logical, and physical
A solid understanding of data sources,
data organization, storage, and cleansing
Expose to Data Quality improvement products, applications, and techniques
Experience working with Data Governance
tooling, such as Collibra, Alation or Axon
Knowledge of Data Risks and the impact on the organization
Wide-ranging awareness to structured and non-structured data, Data
Lakes, cloud environments, documentation and management of data
risks and the governance of change
Previous working experience with data interoperability between
systems using ETL and ELT data transfer
Strong organizational skills and confident to chair workshops and meetings
High level of accuracy and attention to detail with proactive
problem-solving skills and innovative thinking capabilities
