The Role

The Tax Accountant will be a subject matter expert responsible for ensuring taxation compliance. The Tax Accountant will prepare and maintain financial records, have a strategic focus and perform a variety of Financial activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review sales and use tax returns for the Firm
  • Prepare Firm partnership and property tax returns as required in all jurisdictions in which the Firm is located.
  • Assist with preparation of year-end partner tax spreadsheet for outside accounting firm and tax work papers used to prepare federal, state and local tax returns and associated K-1s in numerous jurisdictions.
  • Record and pay state tax estimates in various locations while maintaining logins for each jurisdiction.
  • Assist in reconciling draw, tax, withholding and distribution accounts for partners in the United States and Canada.
  • Maintain nexus schedules for the various states the Firm operates in.
  • Research filing requirements to comply with state and local laws.
  • Compute state pass through entity and composite taxes maintaining schedules allocating tax amounts by individual.
  • Maintain partner capital balances and work through the capital call process facilitating partner loans, interfacing with both the bank and partners to get the cash in.
  • Work with partners to obtain composite elections and certificate of residency information.
  • Research tax questions and new legislation to determine the impact on the Firm.
  • Maintain fixed asset schedules recording monthly depreciation entries.
  • Assist with preparing budget and variance analysis for all tax accounts and other accounts as assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field is required.
  • CPA license is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Must have an in-depth knowledge of the accounting cycle.
  • Must have the ability to research taxation changes and complex issues including foreign tax issues.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office products with an emphasis on Microsoft Excel. Experience using macros is a plus.
  • High degree of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and possess a high degree of initiative.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organization, time management and project management skills.

Experience

  • Previous experience with partnership and property taxation.
  • Previous public accounting firm experience is preferred.
