About the role
This role is to work largely with Partner Ernest van Buuren who has
long been regarded as one of Australia's most distinguished shipping
lawyers and has an excellent reputation. Ernest was also recognised in
the 2022 edition of Best Lawyers Australia as "Lawyer Of The Year
for Transportation Law".
We are currently looking for a smart and highly motivated Marine
& Shipping Lawyer with between 5-6 years' experience to join the
team in Brisbane.
Our Australian marine team are leading specialists in their field,
focusing on contentious and non-contentious marine, international
trade and transport law work. The work spans various sectors including
marine, aviation, commodities, insurance, and energy. The focus of
this role is contentious.
You will work in a friendly and supportive national team which takes
the sharing of knowledge, team inclusion, personal career development
and career progression seriously. The nature of the team and the size
of some of the litigious matters the team are currently handling means
that you will be heavily involved in a "national team"
environment in dealing with these matters, allowing you to make a
significant contribution to both the outcome of the cases and the very
'fabric' of the team.
Key Skills & Experience
We are seeking an enthusiastic litigation Associate who will be able
to demonstrate:
5-6 years PQE
Experience which focuses on maritime, aviation, dispute resolution
including class actions
Proven experience working on litigation matters within the Supreme
and Federal Courts, and a commitment to technical excellence
Established skills related to leading e-discovery and electronic
data collection in the context of large, complex litigation
Class action experience and ideally marine, international trade
and/or transport experience
Strong academic credentials, self-driven with excellent verbal and
written communication skills
Pro-active critical and problem-solving skills to not only support
the team's work but to also find creative new solutions
Excellent organisational skills to provide leadership and timely
responses to team and internal/external clients
Strong time management skills and the ability to manage competing
priorities effectively
The ability to work co-operatively and collaboratively in a team environment
A keen interest in your own professional development
The ability to thrive in a high performing team environment.
You will also be Australian qualified with working rights and have
experience gained in an international or leading national firm.
