The Role
This is a non-exempt/overtime-eligible, permanent full-time position
with a hybrid work mode consisting of 2-3 days per week onsite at the
Calgary office.
The legal assistant will provide direct support to a team of partners
and associates. In this role, the incumbent is responsible for the
preparation of correspondence, litigation documents and pleadings as
well as attending to electronic filing; updating pleadings and trial
binders; setting discoveries, trials and applications; and various
other related duties.
Key Responsibilities
Preparation and production of a variety of legal documents, with
accuracy, in the area of litigation.
Attending to file openings, preparation and management.
Preparation of daily correspondence.
Entering time and working with the billing department, as required.
Proofreading of typed material for grammatical, typographical or
spelling error.
Maintaining an efficient bring forward/follow-up system.
Carrying out other relevant administrative tasks as required by
new or emerging business needs.
Essential Skills & Experience
Legal Assistant Certification from an accredited institution or
the equivalent.
Minimum of 3 to (5) years' experience as a legal assistant in the
area of litigation with knowledge and understanding of the Alberta
Court Rules.
Solid understanding of law office procedures.
Strong computer skills in the area of Microsoft Suite.
iManage, 3E experience would be an asset, but is not required.
Rigor and attention to detail.
Great organization and prioritization skills.
Handling and prioritizing workload while working under pressure of
tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Behaving in a professional manner with lawyers, clients and other
team members at all levels.
Team-spirit, strong sense of collaboration and positive,
"can-do" attitude.
Ability and willingness to work onsite at the office 2-3 days per
week according to business needs which may continue to evolve.
